Chapter 374 - Invasion of Italy

1943

It is now 1943, and the Second World War looks like it is in its closing stages right now. Since the Americans have joined the fighting after the attack on Pearl Harbour, they have assisted the allied forces in Europe, and in north Africa. Presently the allied forces have achieved victory in Africa, and it looks like all the attention is going to turn to Europe. It seems that Nazi Germany has forces closing in from all around it, with the Nazi's very much fighting the Soviets to a stalemate east of Germany, and at the same time they have also continued to hold France, and the rest of western Europe, while also sending bombing raids to Great Britain on most nights. The question among many now, is what do the allied forces plan to do. Do they plan to finally turn their attention back to France, and land an invasion force there? Or do they move their forces from north Africa up to western Europe, and attack from there, or perhaps both at the same time. From the information that we, at Leviathan, have been able to receive, it seems like the allied forces are undecided on their next plan of attack. However, this information is purely coming from people Leviathan has in place to pass us on information, rather than us intercepting any of the coded messages from the Germans, or the allied forces. We have been unable to break their codes, which is something that has annoyed father, very much. He claims with all our resources, that is the least of what we should be able to do.

More focusing on the father side of things, his mood continues to be sour, but thankfully he has mostly been taking it out on other people, rather than myself and Nyssa. Over the last few months father has had a few meetings with top German forces in France, and while I did not attend those meetings with father, nor did Nyssa, it seems that whatever father had to say to the Germans, they did not care to listen. Then, at the same time, father is increasingly annoyed that he has basically had communication with Hitler cut off completely. As a result of all this, father has basically abandoned France as his future Leviathan territory, and from what I hear, he even brutally murdered several Germany soldiers before leaving France the last time. It looks like father now intends to move his bets more heavily towards the allied forces, as he certainly does not want to be on the losing side of this war, and it very much feels like the tide has turned in favour of the allies at this point.

However, with all that said, while father may be placing more of his bets on the allied forces winning, he hasn't given up on Germany completely. I think this is mostly because of how much of a liking he has taken to Hitler, which truly is disgusting. It has begun to circulate how in the occupied Nazi territories Hitler has been rounding up people of Jewish religion and executed them, in horrible fashion, just for not being 'pure'. It is disgusting, and terrifying, and definitely not something someone like father would blink his eye at, not at all. If anything, I'm sure he likely approves. Anyway, father has still tried to maybe give one last bit of hope to the Germans, and get in Hitler's good graces one last time by sending direct message to Adolf Hitler that the allied forces intend to invade Sicily, and not Greece and Sardinia, as has been rumoured due to some intelligence passed on to Nazi Germany from the fascist Spanish government. Father has not got a response to this information, and no invasion of western Europe has happened as of now, so only time will tell as to what happens next.

On a personal level, I am worried about Nyssa, very much so. Over these past several months father has sent her out on missions to various fronts in the war, which, of course, I have been absolutely terrified about. I know that Nyssa can look after herself. I raised her to be able to defend herself and everything after all, but at the end of the day, this is war, and war seems the bring out the worst in humanity, the worst in everyone. Nyssa, as a woman, would be a perfect target for these men who have been fighting in this war, on both sides. Desperate men who see a woman, and haven't been with a woman in months, or maybe years, and are desperate to have her, putting all their morals to the side. Thankfully though, from the brief interactions that we have had, nothing like that happened to Nyssa while she was out on her missions. However, that did not mean that Nyssa came back from these missions without the scars of war. Even though Nyssa did not want to talk about it, I could tell that she has been traumatised by some of the things she saw as part of the war. I can only imagine the brutality of what she saw. I really wish there was something that could be done. I wish I could protect Nyssa better, but we are still biding our time, and waiting for the opportune moment to strike at father, or at the very least, I am. I do not want to get Nyssa involved in any fight with father, as if I fail, then maybe I will die, but hopefully father will spare Nyssa. However, the thought of Nyssa being left alone with father, after my death, truly terrifies me, it scares me more than the thought of death itself.
