Ethics of a Physician .

It's 8am , Fiona is still in bed , Nina her youngest sister's did her a favor and woke her up ,asked her that if she had decided to go to school or maybe it's her turn to start going to school , on hearing that, Fiona immediately jumped out of bed , run to the bathroom ,brushed her teeth ,washed her face and within a minute she was downstairs off to school , Ms Meriya asked her if she could have a bite of her breakfast ,she said she couldn't , she was already late and promised to eat something from school .

She rushed out , Victor warned her  night before after getting her new job , he'd told her to sleep early but she didn't listen and reaching school , the class had already began .

"You're Fiona right ?" Doctor Rodrigo asked when he saw her sneaking into the class room.

"Yes sir," she got startled .

"Listen to me Fiona , I don't care what you do ,where you come from or how you joined the university but there is one thing you should know , in my class, I don't entertain late comers , there is no way you're going to be a good doctor if you can not manage your time , this is dangerous for your future patients ."

"I understand that sir ." Fiona sat down on her seat like a beaten dog as other students stared at her .

"Hope we're really clear on that ?"

"Sure sir ."

After that class , the students had to attend another class with professor Fuentes who was sitting in for the dean ,Fuentes took them back to San Pedro hospital ,an hospital close to the university to understand better the ethics of a doctor .

At the hospital ,he told them that sexual relationships with patients are prohibited ,they should take vendor relationships serious and dangerous ,physicians should not allow conflicts of interests influence their medical judgment, truth telling towards patients of their diagnosis is very important , confidentiality between a physicians and their patients is also very important .

As he was introducing all these ethics to them ,two patients were brought in through the emergency door , Fuentes managed to stop a nurse who was with those rushing the patients to the emergency room , asked her who were the patients , the nurse told him that one of the patients was a drunk driver of an old woman who had also been admitted , thanked her and allowed her to continue with her work , when the nurse left to attend to the patients , the professor turned to his students and asked them who they would save first .

"Would you save the old woman or her drunk driver ?" he asked again .

"It's obvious , the old woman first ." Roman replied .

"Why would you save the old woman first Roman ?"

"It's because , it's not the old woman's fault that the two are in this situation , she's a victim of this accident ,why would I waste time on jerk like that drunk driver ." Other students tended to agree with him .

"And what do you think Fiona ? You don't seem to agree with the rest ." He realized she was all silent.

"I think I would save the drunk driver , he's young , he has a full life ahead of him ,am not saying that the old woman does not deserve to live but if I save the drunk driver , i could be creating more lives unlike saving an old woman who will live for few more years and die ." Fiona replied .

"I could say you're both right but remember ,the ethics of a doctor are never to judge anyone by their looks or their religion , we are here to save life no matter who owns it, is that understood ?" prof Fuentes asked .

"Yes sir," the five of them replied at the same time .

Roman didn't like the idea that prof Fuentes found Fiona's point legit , he confronted him after the class , he questioned his integrity and his level of education as other students looked at him in disbelief .
