Eight months. That's how long it's been since you and Taylor split up. You spent five years of your life with her, and two of those being married, but you ended up splitting up because you felt that you were growing apart. It was the most difficult decision that you've ever made. But you felt that you had no other choice but to divorce.

It took you several months to find yourself again, and unfortunately, you haven't spoken to Taylor since the divorce was finalized and you moved out of the house you once shared but Taylor ended up selling because it was too hard on her to keep living there.

But tonight that was all gonna change. Because you're both at the same event. Fans have been tagging you both nonstop in old photos, hoping there'd be some kind of reconciliation. But you didn't think there would be. It was still painful to think about the love you once shared together. And you figured that she's moved on. Maybe not with someone new, but you hope she's been healing emotionally. You didn't wanna open that scar again.

You could see her from across the room. The same Taylor you've always loved so much stood there in all her natural beauty and grace, the most beautiful smile you've ever seen someone have was on her face as she hugged and talked to all the workers at the event. It's just like her to be that kind to everyone.

You wanted so badly to say hi. To go up to her and hug her again, but you felt that it was too painfully awkward and you chickened out. But that didn't stop you from stealing glances. And it didn't stop her from doing the same.

Fans caught you both and went all over social media to make sure everyone else saw it too. You never spoke to each other that night and Taylor beat herself up for it later when she got home. She missed you terribly. Seeing you again made her wish she would've fought harder and told you how she really felt about the divorce. It left her feeling a little hurt and full of regrets.

She brushed her teeth and took off all her makeup before she changed into some sweats and laid back in bed. She opened Tumblr and what she saw made her feel like her heart would beat out of her chest.

There were photos of you on her feed and she saw the way you looked at her. The fans kept pointing it out how you kept sneaking glances every chance you seemed to get but you'd always look away when she'd go to look at you. There were videos, photos, gifs - everything you could think of as proof that you had been looking at her.

She got the courage then to do something she never thought she'd be able to do. She pulled up your number, something she could never bring herself to delete. She thought to herself of what to say. She didn't wanna come off too strong and freak you out. So she kept it simple.

Hey. It's me. I've been thinking about you a lot lately. I know you were at the event tonight and I'm sorry I didn't say hi. I just got too nervous. But I wanted to text you and tell you that you still look just as beautiful as you always have. I hope you have a good night and if you wanna text me back, I'm here.

You kept reading the text over and over again, finding yourself smiling bigger and bigger every time. You took a minute to think fo what to say before you replied.

Hi, Taylor. It's really good to hear from you again. Thank you for saying that. You looked beautiful too.

You didn't say goodnight because, to be honest, you didn't want to. You knew it was risky to be texting her because you knew that you still love her and you didn't wanna set yourself up for a broken heart. But you had a feeling that she still loves you too. After all, you did spend five years together. How could someone stop loving someone else after being completely inseparable for that long?

Taylor gnawed at her lip when she read your text. It took her a moment to build up the courage to go a step further, but she found it.

Do you wanna maybe get some coffee or something sometime? I understand if you don't but It'd be nice to see you again. To get to talk to you like... friends?

the last word hurt but you tried to shrug it off.

Sure. I'd like that. tomorrow?

Tomorrow

You both put your phones down and went to sleep soon after she sent that last text. Both of you secretly hoped that maybe, just maybe, fate was gonna give you another chance to make things right.
