You looked beside you to find that Taylor was still sound asleep. Despite the fact that it was after two in the morning, you were wide awake. You sat up in bed and tangled your fingers in your hair. Your stomach grumbled quite loudly and you figured since you weren't getting to sleep anytime soon, you'd go downstairs for a midnight snack.
You pushed the covers away and climbed out of bed. You didn't even bother to peek into your daughter's room. Since her door was closed and her light was off you figured she was asleep.
You took the stairs one by one until you reached the last step. You turned the corner and made your way toward the kitchen, but something caught your eye along the way.
Your footsteps slowed and your heart began to beat a little faster in your chest. The kitchen light was on. It worried you a little since you know that you were the last one upstairs tonight and you know you shut it off. You tiptoed into the kitchen and, low and behold, there sat your teenage daughter shoving ice cream into her mouth.
"Amelia!" You chuckled in relief and your daughter's head quickly turned upon hearing the sound of your voice and her name being called. "You scared me!"
"Sorry, mom." She laughed and stuffed more ice cream into her mouth.
"What are you doing up? You have school tomorrow." You reminded her as you made your way to the drawer where all the utensils were.
"I can't sleep. So I decided to come grab a midnight snack... at two in the morning. What are you doing up?" She asked as you sat beside her, shoving your spoon into the container and bringing spoonfuls to your mouth.
"I can't sleep either. Your mom's asleep, though. I think she could sleep through an earthquake these days."
You both laughed. You dropped your spoon and looked proudly at your daughter. She was the perfect mix of you and Taylor both.
Her hair was up in a messy bun and you noticed that she had thrown on a cozy pair of pajama pants and her favorite band shirt for the night.
"I can't believe you're gonna be fifteen soon."
She turned to you with a smile. "I know. But you're still stuck with me for another few years to come!" She teased.
You laughed, but really you felt your heart drop a little. She was growing up fast. You wanted to tell her that, too. You planned to tell her how proud of her you and Taylor both are when, suddenly, there was another voice coming from behind you.
"What are my girls both doing down here at two in the morning?"
Amelia laughed and raised her spoon of ice cream to show Taylor. "Eating ice cream, obviously. Midnight snacks are a must when you can't sleep, mom."
"Good point." She smiled as she walked up behind you and put her arms around you. She grabbed your spoon and stole a scoop of ice cream causing Amelia to gasp playfully. "Thieves! You're both thieves! Get your own ice cream,"
You laughed and leaned your head against Taylor's shoulder. "Wanna join us, baby?"
"Absolutely! Why would I ever turn down quality time with you both?" She took a seat beside you and stole ice cream from your daughter as she talked all about the school play coming up and how she planned to audition for it.
Taylor listened with bright eyes, wanting to know every single detail as your daughter rattled them off excitedly.
"If you get the part, your mom and I will be there to cheer you on." She told Amelia, which made her smile return.
But it wasn't long before your daughter's eyes began to droop and she started to zone out of the conversation. You and Taylor exchanged a look before she got up and rubbed Amelia's back. "Come on, honey. Let's get you up to bed. Let you sleep a few hours before you gotta get ready for school."
She nodded her head.
"And you go to bed, too. I'll be there in a minute."
She led Amelia up to her room and even though she told you to go to bed too, you couldn't help but watch them interact from the doorway of her room.
Taylor kissed her forehead and since she was too tired to pull the covers up herself, Taylor did it for her. "Goodnight, honey."
She turned her lamp off and met you outside the door.
"Come on, baby girl. Let's go to bed, too."
She wrapped her arm around you and led you down the hall to your bedroom. Climbing into bed beside her, you didn't feel like you were wide awake any longer. You snuggled into Taylor's chest and smiled tiredly as she brushed her fingertips along your back and shoulders.
"I love you so much. I wanna have more midnight snacks with you both more often." She whispered to which you nodded in agreement.
"Sounds absolutely perfect."
