Another day, another interview.
Taylor is tired. She always finds these things harder when you're away. She talked to you just a few hours ago but her mind always tends to wander when you're away serving and although she has the utmost admiration for you and is always in awe of your bravery, she worries about you a lot.
"So, Taylor," Ellen started to say, pulling Taylor out of her thoughts as they returned from the commercial break. "I know your girlfriend is currently serving in the army, right?" Taylor nodded, not really in the mood to discuss this, but she figured Ellen had good intentions and let her continue. "How long has she been gone for?"
"Uh, six months now."
"And she's supposed to be home in, what, four weeks?"
"Yeah. It's been tough. I miss her a lot and the house feels so much emptier without her there. I'm proud of her though but I can't wait for her to come home."
Ellen nodded, her smile growing as she side-eyed something. Taylor didn't think much of it, just figuring it was a staff member or something.
"Well, what if I told you that you don't have to wait another four weeks for her to come home? What if I told you that she's here right now?"
Taylor turned her head when Ellen looked beside her on the couch. She gasped and tears welled up in her eyes when she saw you standing there. She stood up and felt you hug her, your arms around her making it all sink in that you really were home.
She didn't care that she was crying for the world to see. You were there, finally home after six months without you by her side. "I missed you," you whispered in her ear as her tears continued to fall. "I've missed you too."
You wiped her cheeks before giving Ellen a hug too. Taylor sat back down on the couch but you just continued to stand up, making her frown. "Aren't you gonna sit?"
"In a few."
She looked at Ellen confusedly and glanced at the audience then back at you.
"Our anniversary is tomorrow."
Taylor nodded, squeezing your hand.
"I wanted to come home for this one. I wanted to make it really special." You bent down on one knee making more tears fall from your girlfriend's eyes. "I hate being away from you but I love how supportive you are and how much you believe in me. You're the greatest thing that's ever happened to me. You make me so happy and I love you more than anything in the world."
You pulled the box out of your uniform pocket, opening it to reveal the ring of Taylor's dreams. "Taylor, will you marry me?" She started to cry harder as you leaned in for a kiss and then pulled the ring out of the box.
You took her hand into your own, a tearful chuckle falling from your lips when you realized how much her hand was shaking. This was all so much for her to take in at once, but you knew she was happy; judging by the smile on her face.
You slid the ring on her finger and then hugged her tightly. You wrapped your arms around her shoulders and felt hers go around your back. You cried together as the audience clapped and cheered and Ellen did the same behind you, wiping away her own tears from the beautiful sight.
"I love you." Taylor cried, face burying into your neck. Her arm breath and tears fell against your skin. All you could do was smile through your own tears. You felt so grateful to be home with her and to be able to call her your fiancee now. You get to spend forever with her and you can't think of anything better than that.
With a soft kiss against her lips, you pushed your forehead against her own. "I love you too, my beautiful fiancee."
