The sound of your ringtone caused Taylor's eyes to open. The room was dark but she quickly turned the lamp on and watched as the hotel room lit up brightly. She was groggy and even a little confused. The sun was still set. It was still completely dark and when she saw the time on the clock it was no wonder as to why.
She picked her phone up and pressed it against her ear.
"Baby girl? Why are you calling me at two in the morning?" She groaned as she rubbed the sleep from her eyes. She figured maybe you were having another rough night. That you couldn't sleep and you just needed to hear the sound of her voice.
But then she heard you sob and suddenly her heart started to beat faster in her chest.
"Tay? S-something happened..." you cried, making Taylor sit up quickly and clutch her phone tighter in her suddenly sweaty palm.
"What happened? Darling, talk to me."
You sniffled and then said something that made her blood run cold.
"Someone broke in. I woke up to footsteps coming down the hallway and I thought, for a moment, that maybe it was you but then I realized how heavy they were and I saw a shadow under the door and I heard a voice, a deep voice..." You muttered through your tears.
"Are you safe?"
That was her biggest worry. She honestly didn't care if they'd gotten away with a bunch of her things. She couldn't care less about material things getting stolen. What she did care about was you. She can replace an expensive necklace or a bottle of wine or even a car if they'd stolen that.
But she can't replace you.
"The cops came. They took him away in cuffs. He's facing jail time. But... Tay, I'm really scared."
She was slipping on her shoes and grabbing her things and heading out the door quicker than she ever has before.
"It's okay. I'm coming home! I'll be there soon. You're about an hour away from me. Think you'll be okay till then? Or should I call someone to see if they can come,"
She was cut off by a little giggle falling from your lips and despite the fear and worry she felt, she was still smiling at the sound.
"Taylor, it's nearing two-fifteen in the morning."
"I have amazing friends. If you need someone, they will come in a heartbeat."
"I'll be okay. Are you sure you can leave?"
"I'm sure. It won't be any trouble. I'm gonna leave Tree a message and let her know that there was an emergency and I had to get home and we're just gonna have to reschedule. She'll understand. She knows family comes first and, even more so, that you're my first priority. Trust me, we can work everything out."
"Okay."
"Make yourself some tea, cozy up with the cats and in my hoodie and watch your favorite movie or listen to some good music till I get home. Anything you can find that calms you down a bit." She said as she waved a taxi down and got inside, mouthing for them to get to the airport as fast as they could. "I love you."
"I love you too." You mumbled and then hung up.
Your hands were too shaky to even think about making hot beverages of any kind. You stayed on edge, only finding comfort as you played her music and snuggled up to the cats.
It felt like time was dragging by. Your mind was still racing and you were still on edge. So it scared you for a moment when you heard a car pulling into the driveway.
