The day has been long and tiring and Taylor was more than happy to be home with you and your three-week-old daughter.
She opened the front door with your name on her lips, but she didn't dare let it fall because when she walked inside the first thing she saw was the precious sight of you and your daughter curled up on the couch, sound asleep together.
It caused all of her worries to completely fade away. The stresses that came along with her long day and all of the things she has coming up faded from her mind as she stared at the sight with a big, bright smile on her face.
She even pulled her phone out to capture a few photos of the precious moment, quickly setting one as her new lock screen, before she put her phone on the table quietly.
She planned on giving you both a kiss then going up to shower and come back down to order some food or make something for the both of you while she took care of the baby for the rest of the evening to let you have a little rest, which she knows you need.
But as she went to walk to you, she bumped her knee on the table. Her phone had been right on the edge and it fell onto its back with a thud. No damage was done... to the phone or her knee, anyway. But the thud of both caused your little girl to stir and cry, which awoke you.
You jumped awake, hands instinctively falling to her back. You saw Taylor looking guilty, knowing that she was the reason she'd disturbed both of your peaceful slumbers.
"Taylor!" You whined and started to shush your crying baby. "I just got her to sleep not even twenty minutes ago! You couldn't be more careful?" You asked, clearly frustrated and understandably so.
You're still recovering from bringing your little girl into the world and still adjusting to the lack of sleep and the constant crying and feeding that comes along with being a new parent.
Taylor has been by your side every step of the way, of course. But she's got a lot coming up, things she couldn't get out of, and you were on your own for a couple of long hours for the first time today.
"I'm sorry," Taylor mumbled sadly and took a seat beside you.
You looked exhausted. With dark circles under your eyes and your lip trembling as if you were gonna cry, too.
"Hey, it's okay," she comforted, her hand falling to your shoulder.
"I'm sorry I snapped at you."
"It's okay. I understand." She promised and kissed your head. "You're tired. We both are, but you even more so. I understand that you're frustrated. I know that things sometimes overwhelm you, make you feel as though everything is out of control. But you're doing a fantastic job, y/n, even when you feel like you aren't."
You dropped your head on her shoulder and continued to try to soothe the fussy baby, but it was like nothing was helping.
"Here. Let me see her," Taylor whispered and you carefully placed the baby in her arms. She cradled the little girl in her embrace and stared at her lovingly.
Because even when she's fussy and depriving you both of sleep, she still knows that your little bundle of joy is the greatest thing to ever happen to her, along with you, of course.
She stopped crying and even began to drift off to sleep as Taylor hummed along to safe and sound. Her voice was already bringing her such comfort. It warmed your heart to see, especially since it always does the same for you and the millions of other people around the world that love her more than words could say.
"She's calming down now," Taylor whispered, giggling at the soft little sounds the sweet baby made as she fell asleep in her arms.
"She loves you." You whispered as you put your head down on her shoulder and stared at your girls so adoringly. "And so do I. We both missed you today, Tay."
She kissed your forehead softly and put her arm around you. She was about to speak when her phone went off. Thankfully, it wasn't enough for your little girl to stir.
But it was enough to let you catch a glimpse of her new lock screen; of you sleeping with your head against the sofa with your baby asleep on your chest, tiny fingers on your shirt.
"I love your new lock screen."
"Yeah?" She giggled. "So do I. Can't wait to show it off to everyone."
You knew she would. Because you and your little girl are her entire world now and nothing could or would ever change that.
