Taylor gnawed at the skin on her lip as she watched you closely.
You were completely silent, head hanging down as you played with the polish on your nails. There was an ache in her heart. The frown she's seen you wearing from the moment you came home hasn't faded and she had a heartbreaking feeling that your heart was aching even more than hers was.
She reached out to lay her hand on your thigh. She tried to find the right words to say, but her mind continued to race and her heart continued to sink at the thought of you hurting.
"What's got you so down, darling?" She asked worriedly. "Did someone say something that hurt your feelings when you were out?" She wondered, to which you just shrugged your shoulders then shook your head.
"I'm okay, Tay."
In response, at first, she just brushed her fingertips along your thigh for a moment, before she spoke. "I know you're not. Something's bothering you and I'm worried about you." She confessed and she could've sworn that she heard you sniffle. "Baby, I'm here for you. Please talk to me. Tell me what's hurting you." She pleaded as her own tears started to sting her eyes. "You know I won't judge you,"
She didn't even make it through her sentence when you startled her by letting a loud and heart-rending sob fall from your lips. She was taken aback for a split second before her instincts kicked in and she pulled you into her arms.
"That's it, baby. I'm right here. I've got you now, just let it all out." She whispered as she held you close. She rubbed your back and kissed your forehead and tried to fight back her own tears that were caused by seeing you so upset.
"Don't let me go." You begged and held onto her tighter than you ever have before.
She frowned and stared down at you as you soaked her hoodie with the tears falling from your eyes. "Honey, I'm never letting you go. I'll stay right here with you for as long as you need me to." She whispered as she buried her lips in your hair.
"I won't force you to talk to me about whatever or whoever caused this, but I hope you know that you can confide in me if you need to get it off your chest; whether that's now or tomorrow or a month from now. If you don't wanna tell me about it, that's okay too. I just want you to know how much I love you. You know you're safe with me and that I'm here for you always."
She ran her hand along your back as you continued to cry. A stray tear would fall from her eyes here and there, but only because it was hard to see you so sad, so down.
She laid kisses to your head and instead of telling you that she loves you every five seconds, even though the urge to do so was still strong, she found herself showing you.
From the comforting touch of her hand to the beat of her heart against yours. She hoped that with every beat against your chest, you could feel the love she has for you that is most times indescribable.
"I'm staining your shirt with my tears." You mumbled through your tears and moved your face to her neck instead.
She chuckled and hooked her fingers beneath your chin. She brushed the tears falling from your cheeks away with her thumbs and sent you a small smile. "I'll dry your tears every time you're sad. I promise."
You sniffled and closed your eyes, leaning into her touch as she caressed your cheek.
She realized then that you didn't need her to have the right words to say. You just needed her to hold you and really promise you that you were safe with her; which you always were and always would be.
