Just a few seconds after Taylor knocked on your front door, it was swinging open to reveal your father standing there.

"Hello!" She greeted.

"Who are you?" He asked and Taylor couldn't help but feel a little intimidated by him.

She couldn't put her finger on why, but there was something about him that irked her. He seemed unhappy, a little cocky, and kinda mean as he stood with his arms crossed over his chest and stared her down.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot to introduce myself! I'm here to see y/n. I'm her girlfriend!"

"Girlfriend?" He asked, the word falling from his lips in a bitter manner.

She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. Did she have the wrong house? She's dropped you off here before, but only after dark. Although you're over eighteen and a legal adult now, you still live with your parents. Taylor isn't one to judge, though. Not once has she judged you for anything.

But it's odd how you only let her pick you up and drop you off when no one is home or after dark. And staring at the man standing in front of her, with how different he acted than you, she wondered if she got mixed up because surely, you couldn't be related to this guy.

"Sir, if I-" she started to speak, about to apologize if she mixed something up. But your father cut her off, yelling out for you, and quite angrily.

"Y/n! Get down here right this minute!"

The screaming caught your mom's attention and Taylor was relieved to see her. She knew now she had the right house and she assumed she caught your father in a bad mood. But your mom wasn't kind, either. Staring at Taylor like she was scum.

"Who are you?" Your mom asked, just as you came down the stairs.

"Why don't you ask y/n? Apparently, the woman at the door is her girlfriend."

You stared at Taylor with tide-eyes before you closed them. You looked ashamed and she couldn't figure out as to why, whether it was because of her or them.

"Your girlfriend?" Your mom repeated. "What have we told you? You are not allowed to be like that. It is shameful!"

You hung your head and blinked away the tears that swam in your eyes.

"y/n," Taylor whispered worriedly, clearly concerned about you.

"Shut up!" Your dad shouted at her, making her jump in fear. "You have a girlfriend? A girlfriend?"

"Dad, I-"

"No! It is not natural and it is not okay, especially not in my house!" He shouted at you and you flinched from how loud his voice was.

"But..." you paused, staring up at Taylor with tears in your eyes. "That's who I am. I love Taylor."

"Love?" Your mom seethed, staring at you in shame. "Then get out of this house."

You looked at them with tears in your eyes.

"Where do I go?"

"Why should we care?" Your father asked and just as you started to sob, Taylor spoke up for you.

"You can stay with me."

Your parents looked at her in disbelief, while she watched you smile through your tears.

"You know you're always welcomed at my house - sorry! Our house. Go grab your things, baby."

"No. You do not go up to your room. You get out of this house right now."

You looked over at Taylor, who was already waiting for you to run into her arms.

"Happily. I've wanted nothing more for years. You think you're ashamed of me? You could never be as ashamed of me as I am of the both of you."

You ran out of the house and onto the front porch step and right into your girlfriend's secure arms. You went to walk away, tugging at her hand to get far away from your parents and out into the car. Only for Taylor to stop and turn back to them to get the last word.

"You know, I have to say you guys did such a good job in raising her." She said and your parents almost took it as a compliment.. until she followed it up by saying. "She turned out wonderfully... because she's nothing like you."

She took your hand and helped you into the car before driving off.

Only when you were in the safety of her home and the comfort of her arms did you open up.

"Are you mad at me?"

"Mad? No, baby. I could never be mad at you for that." She said as she held onto you a little tighter, staring down at you lovingly. "    We can't choose our family, right? As terrible as your parents are, you didn't turn out to be like them and I think that's incredible."

You chuckled as you leaned up for a kiss from her lips.

"About your stuff," she started to say as she intertwined your fingers together. "    We've got two choices: we can see if we can get it somehow, or we can get you all new stuff so you don't have to go back there. If you have anything sentimental-"

"Sentimental? At my parents' house?' You shook your head with a sad chuckle. "Nothing there is sentimental. They never let me be who I am. Never loved me for the real me. They've always made me feel hard to love. Like I'm worthless."

"You are not worthless, nor are you hard to love. Look at how fast it took me to fall in love with you. Only a couple of weeks in and I was head over heels for you. And my parents, you've met them and they love you so much. You've still got a family, y/n. You've got people that love you and care about you, the real you."

"I love you, Tay. Thank you for helping me get out of there. I don't know how to thank you enough."

She put her lips back onto yours for another kiss and this time, when she pulled away a moment later, she nudged her nose against your forehead and continued to stare down at you with a look of love in her big, blue eyes.

"You don't have to thank me, y/n. You're my girlfriend, it is my job to love you and care for you. You're safe and you're happy now, right?"

"So happy, Tay. I'm the happiest I've ever been when I've got you by my side."

"Then that is all that matters to me."

You pushed the blanket away from your lap so you could turn around and straddle her thighs. You looped your arms around her neck and brought her in for another kiss.

You couldn't help but smile against her lips as your heart filled with an inexpressable amount of love for her, knowing that she was the greatest thing to ever happen to you.
