You shivered and continued on your walk home from work. The area of LA that you're walking through really isn't the greatest but it's the shortest route to Taylor's house from your new job.
You pushed a strand of hair behind your ear as the wind blew. You kept trying to shake the anxious feeling in the pit of your stomach. It felt like someone was watching you but you couldn't see anyone because of how dark it all was.
There was a sudden loud noise, like the sound of fireworks going off right by your ear. You jumped and looked around but didn't see anything and tried to brush it off, wanting to get to Taylor as quickly as possible.
But there was a sudden pain in your stomach when you went to walk again. It was so bad that it made you double over and fall to your knees. You put your hand over where the pain was coming from and felt something coat your fingers. Confused, you pulled the phone out from your pocket and shined the flashlight on your fingers.
You panicked when you saw the crimson red blood on your fingers. You shakily called 911 but you soon passed out, watching as everything went black and fuzzy.
You heard the sound of a constant beeping coming from your left side. You tried to move your hand but it was weighed down by something. You opened your eyes and saw that it was another hand and when you looked up you saw Taylor sitting next to your bed crying.
"Tay?" Your voice was scratchy and you almost didn't recognize it as your own. Taylor's head shot up when she heard your voice. Tears were streaming down her cheeks but she let out a breath of relief when she saw that you were awake. "Oh thank god. You're okay!" She put her arm around you but pulled away when you winced.
"Oh, darling, I'm so sorry." You clutched her hand with all the strength you had. "What happened?" You asked, trying to think back to why you could possibly be in the hospital but everything was fuzzy and hazy. "You got shot, baby."
You looked at her with fear in your eyes. "What?" You panicked, suddenly paranoid that whoever hurt you was gonna come and find you. "You called 911 but passed out. The operator managed to trace your location and they got you here just in time." You nodded with tears in your eyes. "And the person who shot me?" She sighed sadly. "They haven't found who it was yet... but they will. They already said they won't give up till they find whoever it was."
She kissed your head before bringing your hand up to her lips. "Why were you walking through that bad part of the city? Baby, you know it's dangerous." You bit your lip. "My car broke down and I haven't gotten it fixed yet. I started that new job and it was the quickest way to your house so I figured if I just walked really quickly through it then I'd be okay."
Taylor squeezed your hand and you looked at her. "We're getting you a new car, and you're not working there anymore. I don't ever wanna take any more chances with you having to go through there again. You're gonna need a few weeks to rest up and heal anyway, so you're gonna stay with me and take it easy for a while. When you're better I'll help you look for a new job and a new car."
You smiled and nodded your head. "Okay. Thank you, Taylor." She kissed your lips softly and ran her hand up and down your arm, ready to take good care of you for a while.
