BUT DON'T, OH NO, HESITATE
'CAUSE YOUR LOVE JUST WON'T WAIT
OOH, BABY, I LOVE YOUR WAY, EVERY DAY,
I WANNA TELL YOU I LOVE YOUR WAY, EVERY DAY,
I WANNA BE WITH YOU NIGHT AND DAY
- BABY I LOVE YOUR WAY, PETER FRAMPTON

James follows the light leaking into the narrow hallway from the nursery. Eyebrows furrowed, he slowly steps into the nursery, hissing at the brightness of the room.

"Reg? What're you doing up? It's the middle of the night, babe, come back to bed," He mumbles sleepily, catching sight of Regulus sitting in the large bay window with his knees pulled tight to his chest as much as his belly will allow.

Regulus glances at him before returning to gazing out the window. "Can't sleep," He replies. "You go back to bed, though," He says softly. "You've got that drowsy look on your face," He smiles.

James trudges over to the window barefooted, clad in only a loose pair of checkered pajamas pants. He sits down in the bay window seat. "It's dark out. What are you even looking at out there, eh?"

Regulus shrugs. "The moon is rather pretty tonight," He replies quietly. "It's a crescent moon,"

James rolls his eyes. "Yeah, lucky Moony," He yawns. "You can always look out the window in our bedroom, silly. So come on, I'll take you back to bed for some 2am cuddles,"

"I didn't want to wake you so I came in here," Regulus answers. "I like being in here, it makes me feel closer to the baby,"

"The baby's jammed underneath your ribs, I am pretty certain you two couldn't get any closer," James muses softly. Regulus can not seem to tear his eyes from the view outside the window. James sighs. "What's bugging you, honey?" He asks gently. "Something on your mind?"

Regulus shakes his head slowly. He sighs. "I've just been thinking of my parents," He whispers, embarrassedly.

"It doesn't do any good to dwell on those sort of people, Reg. They aren't worth any time," James' voice is firm but softened. "You're with me and you're safe and we're having a baby. Your shitty parents can't hurt you now, I won't ever let them again."

Regulus' features soften and he leans his his head against James' shoulder. "Do you reckon I'll be any good at this? This whole raising a child thing-"

James' head tilts sadly. "Regulus..."

"I know, I know. We've had this conversation a thousand times, you've told me I won't be like them a million times. But I can't help but think-"

"You can't help but think badly of yourself because they conditioned you to," James finishes. "That is not your fault, our baby is going to be just fine because they're already so loved and cared for. Your parents never did that for you or Padfoot. But that doesn't mean you and Pads don't deserve all the good that you've gotten in life,"

Regulus is quiet for a long time, before. "They'd kill me if they knew," He whispers so softly. "They'd take our baby away from us, Jamie," Regulus croaks. "We can't let that happen."

"We won't let that happen," James promises firmly. He let's his hand slide onto Regulus' belly. "Try to be a little more positive, angel. You're doing so good, growing our little one so well. Your parents never deserved such good sons, such brave and selfless sons,"

Regulus snuggles closer to him. "You're such a good daddy to our baby already," He murmurs. "You already take such good care of them, and me," Regulus adds. "Thank you,"

"I do that because I love you," James kisses the tip of Regulus' nose. "Because I'd do anything for you, Reg,"

"I love you too," Regulus replies. "I don't like a lot of people and I'm working on that but I've always known I love you," He whispers.

James strokes his thumb down Regulus' cheek. "You're not parents, Reg. I know that, the baby will know that and someday you'll know it too. Even if I have to remind you and tell you every single day,"

Regulus smiles tiredly. "I'm sorry to be springing this all on you. It's so late, James, you should be asleep,"

James tuts, shaking his head as he clasps a hand to Regulus' belly. "You should be asleep, Reg. You're pregnant, your body needs to rest, try not to tire yourself out with silly thoughts,"

Shrugging, Regulus stares out the window once more. "Can we turn on the radio? Please, I know it's late but I think I'd just like to listen to something, get my mind off things a little bit,"

James nods with a soft smile. "Course we can turn on the radio. This'll be one if the last times we can do that at 2am," He gestures to Regulus' rounded belly as he reaches for his hand and pulls him up from the window seat. He casts a charm in the direction of the muggle radio Remus had gifted them for the nursery and the music begins to softly play. "Will you have this dance, little mother?"

Regulus laughs as he takes James' hand and squeezes it. "I don't see why not, it is 2am, after all,"

"Precisely, that's perfect dancing time if you asked me,"

They begun to sway softly, James' hands finding Regulus' hips and remianing there as they move to the melody. "You're gorgeous James," Regulus hums as he wraps his arms around James' neck and rests his cheek close to his lover's bare chest. "So bloody gorgeous," He let's James twirl him swiftly.

"There we go, mama, nice and easy, nice and easy," James smiles as he twirls Regulus back into his arms. "Think we'd make quite the pair dancing, we would,"

"Oi, you think we could do competitive dancing? Absolutely not, we'd be shit,"

James laughs. "Of course we would! But that'd be the fun wouldn't it?"

Regulus grins softly as he presses his lips to James', closing his eyes tightly as James sways them. Anythings fun with James, even dancing in your future child's nursery at 2am; there is no doubt in Regulus' mind that raising a baby with James won't be fun.
