You're in a Long Distance Relationship and you thought it was working

Me and Tyler have been dating since high school and when it came down to applying for universities the topic of going long distance came up. I was applying to universities all out of state and Tyler applied to both in and out of state universities. We love each other and wanted to stay together so we promised to make it work no matter what, an when letters started coming in and we made our choices we knew we'd be going long distance. Tyler was staying here to attend Whitmore and I was heading to New York for Columbia. It was going to be a tough road ahead but we were ready.

Sitting together on my bed as i click accept on my offer to Colombia i stare at the computer in my lap trying to hide the tears in my eyes, i feel his arm wrap around my waist and he softly says 

"hey" and I reluctantly turn to him and he gives me a soft smile reaching with his other hand to wipe a tear "we'll make it work" he says and i nod 

"i know we will" I whisper before turning to shut my laptop and chick it in the bed before turning my body so I'm facing him 

"we should be celebrating! you're going to your dream uni, you have the most handsome boyfriend" he says and i nudge him slightly before he moves grabs my hands and we stare at each other for a moment 

"can i be happy tomorrow?" i ask and he laughs nodding 

"sure" he says and I smile at him 

"i love you" i say and he brings my hands up and kisses both of them

"i love you" 

So we made plans, facetiming or calling every day, texting whenever we could. One of use would always try and visit during calm points in the semester or during holidays where we couldn't make it home. We'd take it in turns because our schedules were so different and this worked for us. We made it work.

Present time,  middle of second year. 

"are you sure you're ok to pick me up from the airport?" i ask Elena on the phone for the millionth time and i hear her sigh

"yes Y/n stop worrying I'm all caught up on work i am happy to sacrifice a nap for one of my best friends coming home" she says and i laugh as i make it to the door of my building, grabbing my key to unlock it i say 

"i'm a med student too all i do is worry about work" i say which earns a laugh from her

"i miss you, you haven't visited in ages" she moans and i sigh as i begin climbing up the stairs to my flat 

"you'll see me in a few days and also nothing has stopped you from coming to see me" I say and we continue chatting until i reach my front door and i hang up as i plan on making dinner right away so i can have it before my call with Tyler tonight, which i was planning to reveal that i was coming to visit for two nights to surprise him. I haven't heard from him much the last few days and he cancelled any calls we were gonna have with some excuse which is very unlike him. And he's been acting strange in nay calls we did have before the week of silence. We don't expect each other to revolve our lives around these calls I just thought that if he knew he was gonna be busy he could've just told me. I mean i managed to get more work done and even had a games night with my roomates, we're all med students we make sure to hold each other accountable and take breaks together and just spend do something that has nothing to do with our degree or Colombia. Walking in i quickly head to my room to put my stuff down and change before heading to the kitchen and greeting my friends and roommates Andy, Margot, Simon and Emily.
