"i know this is a lot to take in and think about, but i really think you should consider this" my boss says sitting across from me and i nod taking a sip of my drink. When he suggesting going for a meeting over coffee after work which thought it was going to be over the case we just closed, not  him offering me to work the case of a lifetime.

"i will" I say nodding and he looks at me "it's hard to say yes without seeing or knowing anything about this case other than who it's defending" I say laughing and he nods

"then you know why you can't see anything until you've signed on" he says and i nod " Y/n, they asked for the best, that's you. This is the biggest murder trial of the decade and will be the biggest case of your career, i want someone i can trust up there with me. And I know this is gonna be a lot of time away from your family, they're more than happy to accommodate anything you need " he says and i turn to him and I nod before checking my watch and noticing the time

"thank you, Y/b/n, when do you need an answer by?" i say reaching down to grab my bag and my wallet

"latest? end of the day tomorrow" he says and I laugh

"should've seen that coming" I say as we both place money down on the table and make our way to the lobby of the hotel passing the restaurant.

"just put the papers on the desk when your done and if i'm not in the office i'll come back right away so we can get started" he says and I turn to him smiling

"you're acting like i've said yes" I say giving him a look and he smiles

"we've worked together for years now I know you" he says and I roll my eyes, we say our goodbyes and I hang back a minute to message Tyler and tell him I'm on my way back. Quickly putting my phone back in my back I start walking towards the doors to leave when someone's laugh catches my ears, followed by the voice of my husband which stops me in my tracks. This morning when I was leaving to drop the kids of at school he said he was gonna be spending the day with Stefan and wouldn't be back too late, that laugh I heard doesn't belong to his brother. I slowly turn towards the where I thought I heard it and sitting in the restaurant was Damon and a very beautiful woman, they look very cosy together. My heart starts to race and before I can really stop myself my legs walk me closer to them and try to find somewhere to listen in without looking too suspicious. Steadying my breathing i listening in 

"thank you for organising this" Damon says 

"i'm glad you could get away, one year is quite a milestone" she says and my heart sinks and my pulse starts pounding in my ears as I move slightly so i can see

"wouldn't miss it for the world, one year of loving you" he says and my feels like it was just ripped out my chest and I quickly grab on the the walk for support

"i love you Dam" she says and she leans in and they kiss, they kiss how he kisses me and I place my hand on my chest as all the air has been sucked out my lungs. My eyes flash to the rings on my left hand and my heart cracks more 

"maybe i can finally meet your kids" she says and my breath hitches. Our children. She wants to meet our children who are waiting at our home for me. I immediately turn around and speed walk to my car hoping my heels don't draw too much attention, getting there i unlock it and chuck my bag on the passenger seat and slam the drivers door behind me. Sitting for a moment trying to cope with my world crashing down, i look around before letting out a silent scream hitting the steering wheel . After however long, I take a few deep breaths before making the drive home. I zoned out for the entire drive to the house, don't know how i made it back but I did, my heart hammering slightly as i look at the home we bought together to starts our family. Our family. When me and Damon first starting dating it felt like a fairytale, too good to be true. We were facing the world together and nothing could hurt us, we could make it through everything. This, however, i never imagined i'd had to make it through this.  Shaking out of it I try and make it look like i've not been crying and grab my bag and head inside, opening the door i could hear the kids laughing which brings a sad smile to my face. Dumping my bag on the stairs i make my way through to the kitchen where Tyler is cooking dinner for us
