The rain pattered against the window. It was warm inside, but the grief and worry made the room feel suffocating. The air was heavy, full of fear and despair. Autumn and Reece were standing in the living room when Autumn finished talking to the police. She held the phone in her hand, which slowly threatened to slip from her grasp, she held it so tightly. Her gaze was fixed and blank as she heard the words she didn't want to hear.

"There is no evidence. They found nothing in father's mansion. The dog search squad, they combed the entire wooded area. No sign of Siobhan," Autumn said tensely, "but they'll keep looking. For Mia... and for Siobhan. But... they don't think my father has anything to do with it."

Vivian entered the room. She had just put Jaimie to bed, and heard part of Autumn's statement. She stood by them with her arms crossed, uttering a bitter sound. "They don't think he had anything to do with this?" Her voice sounded almost incredulous. "How can they be so blind? Bon didn't just drive off the road and vanish into thin air! There's no doubt that Roger is behind it!"

Reece, who had been standing quietly next to his sister. "Dad, play golf with a lot of the lieutenants.... They're covering for him."

It was night again when Mia woke up in the darkness of the cool cellar. Her eyes were burning and her limbs felt heavy, as if they hadn't been moved for days. Well she had been trapped here for days, or had it been weeks by now?

Trapped in a small, cold room.
The walls were made of rough stone and the window, if you could call it that, was just narrow cracks that barely let in enough light to illuminate the room. Luckily, there was a lamp hanging from the ceiling, which was always on and gave her a dim light.

Mia didn't know who her kidnapper was. But she had a suspicion. The evening she was abducted played over and over in her head.

She was sitting in the car and had rummaged in her bag looking for her purse. The car door was already slightly open so that the light filled the driver's cabin. She had thrown her phone onto the passenger seat, unlocked, and already opened Charlotte's chat to write to her quickly.

But she never got around to it. Engrossed in searching for her purse, Mia hadn't noticed the car that had pulled up right next to her. It was only when the car door was ripped open that she was torn from her thoughts. But then she was hit in the face.

What happened next was a blur, she woke up again in the boot of a car. Tied up, gagged and blind. The car journey had taken a long time, at one point the road became uneven. After a sudden brake, she was pulled out of the boot. The kidnapper had dragged her over ,what Mia suspected was forest ground. Until they arrived at a hut.

Then, without warning, she was pushed down the stairs to the cellar. She must have broken her shin in the fall. She hasn't been able to put any weight on her right leg since then, not to mention the pain and nasty swelling.

The fall down the stairs had put Mia in a daze, which gave the kidnapper enough time. To loosen her bonds and take her jacket with them. By the time Mia managed to tear the blindfold off her face, the door had already closed. And she had been here ever since.

The loneliness gnawed at her. Her thoughts kept revolving around the same question: "Will someone find me? Or does everyone already think I'm dead? God, how Char must feel." The thought of her girlfriend made her heart ache. But the thought of her also stopped Mia from going mad.

Over time, she had become accustomed to living in darkness, with little to do and in complete silence. There were moments when she almost lost her mind, when her thoughts left her and she was overwhelmed by a wave of despair. But she fought on, clinging to the thought that she wouldn't stay here forever. At least she got food and drink. Once a day, the door at the top of the stairs opened and something was thrown down. It wasn't much, but it was enough to survive, well for now.
