Clodagh stood in front of the entrance to the nursery, her eyes fixed on the building. It was a moment of normality, a moment that was so strange and painful at the same time. The last few weeks had been characterised by chaos and change. She and Sorscha wanted to try again. But slowly. Very slowly.

Clodagh needed distance. Needed time to slowly rebuild trust with her wife again. The first few days, they tried to live together in the same house. They slept separately, and even during the day, they tried to give each other as much space as the other needed.

But it soon became clear that this arrangement was simply too much for Clodagh. Every time Sorscha arrived home, even a few minutes later than usual. She suspected again that something had happened. Every time Sorscha typed something on her phone, Clodagh's thoughts automatically wandered to Janice. Was she texting the woman?

One evening, it became too much for Clodagh, and she asked Sorscha to move out. Temporary. The pain she saw in her wife's eyes broke her heart again. But Clodagh knew it was better this way for now.

Clodagh walked slowly along the corridor of the building. Until she finally stood in front of the door to the baby room. She immediately saw her little daughter sitting on the floor with two other toddlers. Sorscha was also with the group.

"Ma!" cried the little girl.

Sorscha lifted her gaze, and the two women held eye contact for a moment. Before Sorscha took Quinn in her arms and went to her wife.

"Here you go..." she whispered softly as she handed Quinn into Clodagh's arms.

There was a brief awkward silence before Clodagh broke it. "How was the day?"

" Good... Good! Quinn had a good day. Everything was normal," Sorscha said quickly, when she was torn from her thoughts.

Clodagh nodded. " Good to hear... You have a half day tomorrow, don't you? So can I expect you in the afternoon?"

"Yes," Sorscha replied quickly.

"Good, then I'll see you tomorrow." With that, Clodagh left the room with Quinn. This moment was so ordinary, and yet it seemed to emphasise the deep rift between them. The silence that lay between them was not just a matter of the absence of words but a sign of things that had been left unsaid.

As Clodagh left with Quinn in her arms, Sorscha turned and took a deep breath. The feeling of powerlessness was still there. Saying goodbye, which had been painful so many times before, now seemed more unbearable than ever.

Just as she was about to return to her work, she felt someone standing next to her. It was Charlotte.

"How are things going with Clodagh?" Charlotte asked quietly, looking at her with a sympathetic expression.

Sorscha looked up briefly, then back down at the floor. Her lips moved, but no words came out. She didn't know what to say. "It's..." She faltered. "It's difficult. I don't know what to say."

Charlotte nodded slowly, as if she already knew the answer. She knew from experience what a situation like this felt like. "I'm sorry about that," she said gently. "I hope you two are able to find your way back to each other."

"I hope so too," Sorscha murmured. "... But it's my fault... I destroyed everything..."

Charlotte frowned but nodded slightly, even if it was subconsciously. She herself didn't understand how this thing between Sorscha and Janice could have happened. No one here in the Nursery understood. While her colleagues tried to be neutral with Sorscha. It was a different story from the manager office. Reece was the only one who tried to stay out of everything.
