If You'll Grant Me a Wish...

"Goooosh, why're you crying to me again? Don't you have a bunch of new friends now-?"

"Rui said I'm making him uncomfortable!" You sobbed into the phone, interrupting Yuuki.

"Oh. Woah, boy, uhm... There there?"

You kept crying. How could you ever tell Rui you loved him if all he wanted was to be far, far away from you after how you rejected him?

"Okay, look, he's probably just saying that so he can get over you. Either you tell him you love him, or you make this song thing happen, NOW. Got it?"

"Okay, but... But Tsukasa's holding this party and... and we all promised we wouldn't do anything like that until after..."

"Fine, fine, just... try to get on Rui's good side at the party! Yeah, heheh, there's an idea."

"But he's gonna be avoiding me the whole time..." you groaned.

"Make yourself unavoidable, then!"

"But what if I'm actually making him uncomfy? And now I'm being creepy and stalkerish and... ugh..."

"Well... never know til you try, right?"

"No, Yuuki! This is something I need to know before I try!"

"Okay, Y/n, you're... Let's take a break here, okay? How about a distraction? A lovely little song we both know by heart~" she purred out.

There was only one song like that. A song that resounded in your heart, taking you back to that beautiful galaxy where your friends sang to their hearts' content...

"I don't... I don't wanna sing UFO right now..."

"C'mooooon, you know you're lying."

"I barely remember the rhythm..."

"Big, fat lies."

"I'm literally crying right now, my voice is gonna sound terrible..."

"Valid, but also wrong. C'mon, I will not be taking no for an answer."

...

...

"Fine. But, what, you just... have an accordion sitting around?"

"No, Y/n, girl... Just sing with me."

"Alright, alright... You start..."

And so you both sang the intro, carried through into the musical interlude by Yuuki's soft, lullaby-esque humming, before she moved on.

"Yuujuufudan na bokura dakara..."
(Because we are so indecisive...)

Then, it was silent.

"Y/n, you know the words. Go on."

With a sigh, you sang.

"...yoru ni wa maigo ni naru yo..."
(...we get lost within the night...)

She continued, sounding satisfied.

"Entotsu no mukougawa ochiru, ochiru, ochiru..."
(Into the far side of the funnel, we fall, we fall, we fall...)

And then there was silence again where the next verse came.

"Y/nnnn," she chastised.

"I don't... I don't wanna sing this part..."

"Why not? You know you always sang it best. No one's listening but me, Hun. Just really let loose on it, like you always used to."

You hesitated only a moment, then closed your eyes and nodded, though she couldn't see you.

"Negai ga kanau nara boku no o haka o..."
(If you'll grant me a wish, then show me my grave...)

"Yeah, that was good, Y/n!"

"Nakushita mangekyou de utsushite mite okure..."
(Cast the vision through that long lost kaleidoscope, let me gaze in at it...)

The two of you continued through this song, and behind your eyelids danced the milkyway and its trillions of stars. You remembered how much you loved this song now. 

Ah, right... You'd sang this Rui once... in that park, the first time the two of you hung out outside of class. Oh, how you wished now that it'd been a date. A warm, cuddly date full of kisses and gross couply stuff, and-

"Wow, heheh... You're really into this, huh? I haven't heard you sing like this since... hmm... what was that one song Isago leaked...?"

You blinked your eyes back open, broken out of your song-induced trance, flinching slightly at the brightness of your bedside lamp.

"Ah, uh... Paper Doll?"

"Yeah, that one! You should sing it for me." You could hear Yuuki's smirk through the phone.

"You... Do you even know what the song was about? It was about how our friend group was dying."

"Oh... Awe, but it was such a pretty songgggg!"

"Yeah... and so is UFO, Yuuki..."

"Mhm... Why don't we listen to the first time we ever sang it?"

"Ugh, really? Our voices were so awful back, and we'd have to listen to Kazuni's pubecent squawking..."

"And my 5-year-old ass voice from back then... And you hadn't taken any voice lessons by then, so your voice probably wasn't as smooth..."

"Yeah, why listen to such an old track...?"

"...'Cause it was our best one, wasn't it...?"

You paused. All the songs you'd done... All the better sounding ones, all the ones which much more effort, all the controversey of which song was written by who based on the lyrics and the personalities of every member, and...

Regardless, she was right. No five middle school girls could put that much of their hearts into a song... UFO was a piece of who you were, who you became, and who you are, now. And no matter how far the others could move on... you were sure they all had a corner of their heart dedicated to the stars above.

"Fine... Just once."

 "Yaaaaay! I'm gonna turn it on!"

You sat on your bed, waiting and listening, when the song started. 

...Already, off to a bad start... Your voices were quite terrible.

But it was the feeling that mattered. As you let your eyes close, you felt exactly how you had every time you listened to this song and were taken to Galaxy Sekai. And as you felt the area around you disappear, even the music, you thought for a second that maybe you had been taken there. But, no, it wasn't possible. Dream Sekai was gone now. The shared dream of you and your friends was shattered before you could ever see it through, and so, your Sekai shattered before you could ever say goodbye to the stars. Or to Gumi.

Which meant that now you were probably just falling asleep. It was evening, you'd just cried a decent bit, it wasn't hard to believe. So, you let yourself fall backwards onto your bed, only for your head to hit hard, wood floor.

"Ow! What the-?"

"Ah, Y/n! Are you okay?!"

That voice. That was the voice of a virtual singer. That wasn't Yuuki. And this wasn't your bedroom. 

"...Gumi?"
