scott: i'll be back in town tonight! want to get dinner?

I smile when I see the message. Scott and I have been on about five or six dates over the past month. However, he's been away for two weeks on business.

mitch: of course! where do you want to meet?

scott: i'll just pick you up at 7. i can't wait to see you!

I feel a blush rise to my cheeks.

mitch: i can't wait to see you either. :)

Six Thirty rolls around a little earlier than I'd like it to, and after fifteen minutes of deciding what to wear, and ten minutes of touching up, I hear a knock at my door.

I open the door and see Scott. He's in dress pants and a button up shirt, and he's stunning.

I can't help but notice that there's a nice sparkle in his eyes.

"Wow. You're beautiful." He smiles. "I missed you." He pulls me in for a hug.

"I missed you too," I smile at him and then pull away from the hug.

"Ready?" He asks.

I nod, and we get into his car.

"Where are we going?" I ask. "Am I dressed appropriately?"

"Beautiful as always," Scott grabs my hand, "and we're almost there."

I blush again, and Scott smiles when he notices.

He parks at a field of grass and I'm confused.

"Are we not going to a restaurant?" I ask.

"If you wanted to, we could go to one, but I could have sworn you said that you've always wanted to be on a picnic date..."

"No, no, I do! I just didn't think that um, you did." I say. "It's very sweet of you to think of me. Thank you."

Scott grabs a basket from the trunk of his car, and asks me to grab the two lanterns that are there.

We set up the blanket he brought, and turned on the lanterns.

"I made some eggplant parmesan, I know it's your favorite."

It's a small gesture, but it makes my heart swell.

He also unpacks some strawberries and homemade brownies.

We eat and talk for an hour or so, and Scott wraps an arm around my shoulders and I rest my head on his.

He kisses my forehead and I don't think my cheeks have ever been so red or that I've ever smiled so big in my life.

I wish I could officially be his.

"You're adorable, Mitchy," he chuckles.

"I want to try something," I sit up.

"Hm?" Scott asks. "What is it?"

"This," I say, before planting my lips on his.

He kisses back almost immediately, and I feel him smile against my lips, and I smile back against his.

When I pull away, he's the one blushing.

"I've wanted that to happen for the longest time." Scott says.

"Why didn't you do anything about it?" I say, running a hand through his hair.

"I wanted you to be the one to initiate it. I wanted you to be comfortable, ready for it."

"You're so sweet," I say, "but I've been ready for that since our first date."

"Well I can put that information to use," He places his hands on my cheeks and gives me a nice, soft kiss, "if you'll be my boyfriend."

"What?" I ask, in disbelief.

"I want to be your boyfriend," Scott says, "if you'll let me."

"Of course I will," I smile, "how lucky am I to have met you?" I bite my lip.

"I've asked myself the same thing every day since our first date," Scott chuckles, pulling me in for a kiss.
