Scott's eyes flutter open, he sits up, and he sees Mark standing on the other side of the room, coffee in hand.
"Good morning, Scotty. Merry Christmas." Mark smiles.
"Mornin'," Scott mumbles, smiling at Mark. "Merry Christmas."
"You're so cute when you're sleepy," Mark says. "Here," he hands Scott his mug, placing his lips to Scott's forehead.
"Thanks, Marky," Scott sips it. "I love you."
"I love you too." Mark sits next to Scott in bed, kisses his jaw. "Your family is downstairs waiting for you."
"Oh, I had no idea." Scott says. "Let's go."
They walk downstairs, and Connie is serving breakfast while the rest of the family chats.
"Baby?" Mark asks.
"Hm?" Scott searches Mark's features, wondering what he's feeling.
"I just wanted to say I really love spending Christmas with your family," Mark smiles. "They're so sweet to me."
"You deserve all of the sweetness the world has to offer, baby," Scott smiles. "Come on, let's eat breakfast." Scott grabs Mark's hand.
They sit down at the breakfast table, and there are two plates made for them.
"Your mom makes the best pancakes," Mark says as he eats.
"Thanks, sweetie!" Connie says, and Mark and Scott laugh.
"Uncle Scott! Uncle Mark! Santa came, did you see, did you see?" Beckham says.
"Are you sure those presents aren't all for me?" Scott asks.
"No, you're too old!"
Scott and Mark laugh, and finish breakfast.
Now it's time for presents. Everyone migrates over to the tree, Mark kisses Scott's cheek when he sits next to him.
"You're so cute," Scott chuckles, holding Mark's hand.
"Okay! Landon, Beckham, start passing out presents!" Connie says.
Landon and Beckham pass out all of the presents, and soon everyone has a decent sized pile in front of them. Chaos ensues; everyone opening gifts.
"Okay, open my first gift to you," Mark says. "This one."
Scott unwraps the gift, and gasps when he sees what it is.
It's the original handwritten sheet music for Thank You. It features Scott's handwriting for the notes and Mark's handwriting for the lyrics. It's framed, and it has a note from Mark on the lower left corner.
my favorite thing i've ever done, with my favorite person i've ever met. i love you. ❤️marky
"I thought we lost this," Scott says. "Marky, I love it. We can hang it in our room," he says. "I love it. Thank you so much, Marky."
"I found it when we were cleaning before tour," Mark says. "That song just means so much to me. I don't know if it even means half as much to you-"
Scott silences him with a kiss, and Mark feels the love and adoration coursing through him. Honestly, he does every time Scott kisses him.
Mark giggles when they pull apart.
"It's my favorite song I've ever written, by far. You mean so much to me, and now the world knows. We've performed it in sold out arenas and everyone loves it. I couldn't ask for anything more." Scott says. "On that note, you open this one," Scott points to a box.
"What is this?" Mark asks, opening it. "A picture of us?"
"You don't remember when this was taken?" Scott asks. He pouts, only a bit upset.
Mark thinks. "I'm sorry. Give me a moment," he says.
It's a group photo, looks like it was taken a few years ago. Scott and Mark are standing next to each other, clearly not dating yet. (Scott would take every instance to wrap his arm around Mark's waist ever since they became official; he loved holding him close.) Mark is wearing a black t shirt and white jeans, and Scott is wearing...Mark's flannel around his waist?
"Wait. I accidentally took that flannel home the day we met," Mark says. "I needed to return it to you and that turned into our first date...and you let me keep it. Is this the day we met, sweetheart?"
Scott smiles. "I thought you didn't remember," he says. "This was one of the best days in my life, even if I didn't know it yet."
"Scotty," Mark pouts. "Remember when we tried texting Tyler for this and he lost it? Where'd you get it?"
"I charged up my old phone I had back in 2017," Scott says. "And found my old messages with Connor. He'd sent it to me."
"Did you two get each other pictures?" Rick asks, sitting by the boys.
"Scotty got me a picture of us on the day we met," Mark says. "And I found the original notation for Thank You and framed it."
"Those are very heartfelt," Rick says. "You know, I haven't seen a love like yours in a long time. I'm very happy for you two."
"Thanks, dad," Scott says. "He's pretty special," he looks at Mark.
"Scotty," Mark blushes.
Scott kisses Mark's cheek, and pulls him close. There's nobody he'd rather be with.
