Minato Arisato x Fem!Reader (P3)

Endgame Spoilers!*

You couldn't believe you had forgotten. It all came back in a flash, and without thinking you had stood up on instinct and ran to the stairway. It didn't matter that your legs were beginning to ache, or you were running out breath- you had to see him. 

It had felt like a lifetime to you before you got to the rooftop, and at your arrival you quickly opened the door and looked around. Aegis caught your gaze and nodded at you sadly, standing up to allow you time with Minato. 

You rushed to him, overly conscious of the lack of time you had. There was so much you wanted to say, plenty you still wanted to do with him. Kneeling by him, he felt your presence and opened his eyes, looking sleepy just like all those times you'd wake him up. 

Minato smiled upon seeing you, eyes soft. He was always quiet with some sarcasm, but you knew he was kind. He had helped not only SEES but many students in Gekkoukan with their problems. Knowing that just made you sadder- he did so much and he gets this in return?

Perhaps hearing your thoughts, Minato weakly lifted his hand, and you slid yours underneath. It lay on his chest, and you could feel the beating of his heart even through his uniform. 

You wanted to be strong, but you couldn't stop your escaped sob. "This... This is unfair."

Minato didn't answer with words, but instead squeezed your hand gently. Try as you did to blink hard to hold back tears, they continued to fall. Knowing time was scarce, you were anxious to get everything you wanted to say out- how much you appreciated him, his quirked eyebrow when silently questioning someone, the way his hair falls over his eyes sometimes. How could you list everything in such a short time?

"Th-Thank you." You eventually choked out, wiping your eyes with your free hand. "For everything. It all meant so much to me- and I'd go through it all again if I could."

Minato would deny it, but he had helped you grow though your time at the dorm. Not just in combat but with your confidence too. You briefly wondered if this was a lesson on strength as well, and almost laughed wryly. 

Still, you didn't want to worry him. "I'll... We'll all be alright. I know you hard you've worked, so... S-So rest easy, okay?" You tried to chuckle but it came out choked. "You won't have to deal with me waking you up for school anymore, hahah..."

Minato's grip loosened, and panic surges through you. "Minato?" 

His lids flickered and he looked to you again, meeting your eyes. They were soft and warm, like his hand. Once more you heard his calming voice, and your heart pounded from anxiety and happiness.

"I love you." He said voice low with exhaustion, but as genuine as every other time he said it. 

Tears continuing to stream, you nodded and shuffled closer to him, using your free hand to clasp his. "I love you too! I love you so much..."

You lay your head on his chest, letting your tears stream. They dropped onto his blazer, wet spots forming. His chest continued to rise and fall steadily, until it slowed. You couldn't control anything but your grip on his hand, and your sobs came out unabashedly. 

"I love you, I love you..." You continued to cry, but he didn't answer anymore. His hold slackened, yet a smile remained on his lips.
