Since receiving that cheerful text, you were feeling quite chipper yourself for reasons you couldn't quite decipher. You had only just noticed your exceedingly good mood when your mother pointed out your constant humming and smiling... You couldn't think of an excuse for it.
You found that you couldn't keep your eyes off the clock for long, and your teacher noticed this as well, causing you a brief moment of embarrassment as he called you out. Even with that though, it didn't ruin your day at all.
After what seemed like forever lunch finally arrived, and the excitement you had somehow morphed into an antsy feeling that was evident as you fiddled with the buttons of your gakuran uniform.
People passed back and forth through the narrow halls, and as you became aware of the time ticking on you began to feel unsure. She definitely said tomorrow, didn't she? You didn't accidentally misread the text? Actually, why were you so anxious...?
"Hey!" Rise's peppy voice broke you of your thoughts... Rather abruptly at that.
She blinked at you when you jumped slightly, turning around to meet her eyes. "Whoops, sorry. Didn't meant to catch you off guard like that." She apologised, but smiled. "Consider as payback for last time!
Chuckling, you nodded. "Yeah, I guess I did scare you and Tatsumi-san before. Sorry about that."
"It's alright, we've seen plenty more scary stuff." Rise responded, but the way your face fell didn't go unnoticed.
"That's true..."
She hesitated, thinking of how to word her thoughts, when you both heard voices that didn't belong to either of you. They were in hushed whispers, but heard nonetheless.
"Look, there Risette! I wish she was in my class..." One muttered.
Another sounded curious. "What's she doing with L/n though? I hope he's not trying to bother her."
Rise mirrored your tired and weary expression, and unexpectedly grabbed onto your hand. Her fingers felt warm and welcoming against yours, but you were sure your face was much warmer.
"C'mon, we were going to have lunch, weren't we?" She asked with a grin, already beginning to walk. The whispering and mumbles hadn't ceased, but she brought you out of earshot of them by bringing you to the rooftop.
It was free of people besides you both, and the the open air was comforting, despite the slight breeze. The sky was still painted a grey with slowly moving clouds, the last of the rain about to pass.
You sat down next to her by the corner. "Thanks."
Although your sentence was a curt one, you were genuinely received she had got you out of there, and quick as well. You supposed that was something an idol had to learn when it came to crowds.
"No problem. I'm used to it for myself but..." Her eyes flickered to yours uncertainty. "I didn't know it was as bad for you... I did hear a few things though."
"Ah... Yeah." You found no reason to deny it, although you weren't exactly happy about that fact. "They don't know about me, not really. But the stuff they come up with isn't too far off..."
Rise frowned. "Oh... What do they say exactly?"
You shrugged, averting your eyes. "I guess when you don't say much about yourself people fill in the gaps. When they started guessing that I was in a gang or something, I... Just panicked and didn't say anything." Realising how gloomy the current conversation was, you forced an awkward laugh. "I- I guess that made it worse though, huh? Hahah..."
