On the surface, you were like any other student; you'd go to class, hang out with friends, etcetera. What wasn't immediately obvious was that of your background; a well off family with success as its main goal.
You didn't think of it growing up, but as you got older and were forced to follow in your parents footsteps, you wondered if you were really living your own life. Even your room wasn't an accurate depiction of yourself, just another place for you to study medical books and the like.
For the longest time you stayed silent and complied, as it was just easier. You didn't want disappoint your parents either. Your friend Ann understood the loneliness you felt, and was always so supportive. She soon introduced you to a larger friend group, who you eventually opened up to and even managed to say what you really thought around them.
You had all gathered at the entrance, yourself leaning against the railing. It was peaceful, chatting about mundane things, until you received a phone call.
Ann, Ryuji and Akira raised their heads.
"It's my Mum." You read the contact number, holding back a sigh as you lifted your phone to your ear. "Hello?"
You tensed at the voice on the other line. "Where are you?"
"With my friends, why?"
"Why?! You could be doing more important things instead of slacking off."
"S... Sorry." You mumbled in response. Without even a goodbye, the call ended shortly after.
As you looked down at your feet, the three exchanged looks with one another.
"Uh, sounds like she's a little irritated." Ann brought up, twirling the ends of her hair. "She might just be in a bad mood."
"'Bad mood' my ass, what a shitty parent!" Ryuji grumbled, but after being sent a glare by Ann he sheepishly scratched his head. "I mean, uh..."
You shook your head. "It's fine. I guess I should head home."
As you straightened your back, preparing to leave, Akira spoke out to you.
"If you're already 'slacking off', why not stay out for longer?" He asked.
You turned back, hesitating in your reply. "I don't know..."
"He has a point, I mean we're already rebels, right?" Ryuji grinned.
Ann also sent you a reassuring smile. "Yeah, that's right!"
Biting your lips, you wrapped your arms around yourself. "I don't really even know what to do, though."
"That's easy, just leave it to this guy!" Ann stated, proudly clapping a hand on Akira's shoulder. "He knows his way around."
Your gaze flickered up to Akira's, and he pushed his glasses up. "I suppose I do."
"So it's settled! Y/n can piss off her parents, and Akira can-"
Ryuji was soon elbowed by Ann. "Don't worry about it, have fun!"
You blinked. "You're not coming with?"
"No we've got, um..." Wracking her brains for an excuse, Ann paused before forming a tight-lipped smile. "We're going to an eating competition, and they're really strict on what time you arrive, so we gotta go!"
"The hell? An eati- mhphm-!"
With her sleeve over Ryuji's mouth, Ann gave a cheerful wave with her other hand. "See you!"
As they walked away (Ryuji more along the lines of being dragged), you tilted your head.
"A-An eating competition, huh..." You muttered in awe. "Ann never told me about that."
