Although the classroom was busy with hustle and bustle of your classmates, it was silent as usual. To you, that is.

Since starting school you had grown used to reading people's lips, as a lot of people didn't know sign language. Sometimes it'd be frustrating, because you couldn't always tell what someone saying just by their lips. Due to that you always kept a notebook handy, as it was your way of communicating with people.

Thankfully your friend had learnt sign language, so it didn't always have to be used. You were sitting by your desk as your friend chatted away through hand motions. While following along you couldn't help but notice the class was even rowdier than usual, and some had clustered into excited groups by the door.

Your friend noticed your curious stare. "Turns out we're getting a new transfer student."

"Another?"  You replied with similar hand movements. Your friend laughed, and despite not hearing it you knew it was a genuine one from the expression on their face.

"I know, right?"  They smiled. "Apparently they're pretty famous."

That was news to you. Someone famous? Who could that be...?

The door to the classroom opened, and the groups of people scattered to their desks. Coming inside was your home room teacher, and following behind him was a girl with brown hair.

The class had erupted into murmurs and whispers, which you could only assume from how everyone had begun nudging shoulders and talking closely to one another.

"Settle down, class. You've all probably heard already, but we have a new transfer student." With a tired sigh, he gestured to the girl standing next to him.

The girl took a stick of chalk, writing her name on the blackboard. After doing so she turned to give a polite bow. "My name is Rise Kujikawa. It's nice to meet you."

You read the neat handwriting on the board as the teacher spoke to the new girl. She then began walking forward to a seat, passing by you as she did so. You couldn't help but notice the lack of brightness in her olive eyes.

The rest of class went by smoothly, and you were able to copy the notes on the board easily enough. It was easy to tell when lunch rolled around, as a number of people approached Rise as soon as the bell rung.

While packing your stuff away, you stole a glance. Rise's shoulders rose slowly and then deflated, as if she was sighing. As contagious as the excitement from the small crowd was, it didn't reach her at all judging from the distant look in her eyes.

Through the small parting in the sea of people, Rise had by some chance met your gaze, and for a moment her gloomy demeanour changed to a surprised one, but it was short lived as someone got in the way.

Your friend tapped you on the shoulder, looking at you confusedly. 'You okay?'

You simply nodded and it sufficied as a reply. However even when leaving the class to go eat lunch, you couldn't stop your mind from wandering to the new student. What could have made her look so sad like that? You pondered the thought.

After eating lunch, you strolled around the school hallways with your good friend in tow, the same thoughts from previously still in mind. That's why is seemed almost like fate that you had bumped into that certain person.

Being in a daze you didn't notice somebody coming your way, and of course you didn't hear them either. You only felt someone collide with you, and saw the person knocked back on the floor.
