Being a winter evening, the chilly air only grew colder from its temperature earlier in the day. Usually you'd be getting yourself cosy at the dorm, maybe take a quick nap- but your boyfriend had other plans, and you were unsurprisingly involved.

So here you were, walking in the dead of night with Junpei sauntering beside you happily. All your questions were only answered with "it's a surprise!" so you really had no idea what was in store.

"Okay," you started. "If you're not going to tell what you're planning, can you at least tell me the why?"

"Hey, you know if I tell that'll give it away!" He countered. "Let's just say it's a date organised by yours truly."

You sent him a questioning glance, and he laughed sheepishly.

"C'mon, I can plan dates! I'm always keeping it fresh."

To that you couldn't help but giggle at his defensiveness. "I know, what else would those eating competitions at Hagakure's be?"

"Exactly." He nodded. "W-Wait, I can be more romantic than that! Just watch!"

You laughed. "I believe you! But where are we going?"

Junpei let go of your hand and slowed to a stop. "We're already here. Ta-da!" He gestured to a blanket laying on the grass.

You certainly were curious. "And... This is...?"

"Heh!" Junpei straightened his baseball cap. "Bet you've never been on a stargazing date!"

It all made sense now. It definitely wasn't what you were expecting, but you supposed being out at this hour made it obvious. You smiled genuinely at him.

"I haven't! How did you get the idea to plan this?" You asked.

Junpei's chuckled. "Online, mostly..."

"Well, it's really sweet. Thank you." You gave him a quick kiss and then laid on the blanket, getting comfortable. "Let's see who can find a constellation first."

His reply was delayed somewhat due to the sudden kiss, but he soon snapped out of it and followed suit. "What kinda competition's that? You know I'll find one first."

"Will you? Name one." You challenged jokingly.

"Uh... The Big Dipper?"

"Everyone knows that one, you cheater!" You poked his side and he laughed loudly.

For a while you were caught up in your faux argument that it was a few minutes before the actual stargazing took place. However when you turned your head to look at the sky, you noticed something amiss.

"Um... I don't think we'll be seeing anything tonight."

"Huh? What makes you say that?" He asked, and as he turned to look his question was soon answered. He didn't complain like you expected, or even crack a joke; he became silent.

"Junpei?" You called softly.

He shut his eyes with a sigh. "Man... Luck just isn't on my side, huh? Or maybe I'm just an idiot for not checking the weather fist."

Instead of a clear view of the stars, the sky was filled with moving grey clouds. You frowned sadly at his tone.

"I guess I was just really excited. I wanted to do this with you as soon as possible." He sighed. "I sure do put the 'hopeless' in romantic."

You turned fully on your side to face him, gently holding his shoulder. "You're not hopeless. You're acting as if this is the last date we'll ever have!"

He chuckled dryly. "Sometimes I kinda wonder that..."

"What do you mean?" Although sadly you had an idea.

He shrugged. "Well, I mean... look at you! You're drop dead gorgeous. You could get someone way better than plain ol' me."

"But you are the best." Finally he has turned to meet your eyes, and you smiled genuinely. "Everyone has their doubts sometimes, but you don't need to worry about that. I love you!"

Even in dark you could see his face lighten up in a reddish colour, and he stammered somewhat. "I, uh... W-Well..."

He was quite embarrassed. But seeing you smile whole-heartedly at him, he could only smile back. "I love you, too."

Grinning, you lay on your back and looked to the sky. "I have an idea, anyway. We don't have to go home just yet!"

"Really? What'dya mean?"

"We can look at clouds too! Doesn't that look like a fox?"

Junpei attempted to look for where you pointed. "Huh? Where?"

You shifted closer, your shoulder bumped gently against his. "There!"

"Oh, yeah." He chuckled a bit. "Guess you're right!"

You smile mischievously. "So that means I get the first point."

"What? No way! That was a practice round." Junpei said, and seconds later he pointed. "There, a lion!"

There was a large circular cloud, the edges around it slowly departing, giving an even fluffier shape.

"Hm... That's more of plate."

"Are you kidding? That's the most badass lion I've even seen!" Junpei said confidently, and as you broke out into giggles he began to laugh too.

The game continued for a bit,  and after a little while you lost track of who had more points. It had just been a relaxing time, watching clouds roll past and pointing out the shapes they formed. Sometime in the middle of it, Junpei had fumbled for your hand and you latched onto it with ease, weaving your fingers in between his.

Eventually and unfortunately, the two of you had to leave. It would've be good to stay until after midnight after all. Junpei stood up first, holding out a hand.

"What a gentleman." You chuckled, and he grinned.

"Of course I am!"

As Junpei picked up the blanket, you wrapped your arms around yourself to keep warm. The night had somehow gotten even chillier, and your arms were covered in goosebumps, even under your coat.

Something was draped around your shoulders, and you recognised it as the blanket. You turned to face Junpei who looked a bit shy.

"I don't want you to get cold." He explained, rubbing his neck.

"Thank you." You replied, linking his arm with yours. "Same for you!"

He just laughed and joked that he could get why you didn't to take your hands off him. In his mind he still could only think of how lucky he was. You were feeling quite lucky too.

A/N: I got this idea from when my friend and I tried to stargaze, but it was too cloudy. So we just pointed out cloud shapes instead! It was a fun time. 😊

So that I can (hopefully) update more, I'll be writing more stories I've had ideas for while I work on that last request. I've been desperate to write them out so I hope you enjoy them!
