After your confession at the shrine, you felt so much happier. Not that you didn't enjoy your usual days by Mitsuru's side, but to be able to be upfront and honest about how much you loved her, the feeling couldn't quite be explained.
It was different seeing Mitsuru be as shy as she was, even after all the years you spent together. You were used to seeing her always being direct and assertive, at the beginning of your new relationship it was easy for her face to become slightly pink.
Bit to say you weren't somewhat shy yourself, but now that you didn't have to hide your feelings, you couldn't help but say or do things that showed that, such as unconsciously reaching for her hand when you were walking side by side. Or sitting as close as space would allow when you'd simply relax and talk with her.
Like now, when the dorm was quiet and the only sound interrupting the silence was the tweeting of birds outside the open window. The furniture in Mitsuru's room was elegant and reflected the owner nicely, but as you stole a glance at her reading beside you, you could only think that she was much more lovely.
As if feeling your stare, she looked up from her book. "What is it? There's no need to stare..."
"Sorry, I couldn't really help it." You told her honestly, and although bashful she couldn't hold back her smile.
Mitsuru ran her fingers through her fringe, it slightly covering her face. "You say such things so easily, don't you...? Although I can't say I mind it too much."
You chuckled. "I guess so. It's more that I've always been thinking stuff like that, but now I can say it out loud." With that you reached out and brushed her soft hair away from her face, revealing her dark eyes that shyly looked into yours.
"Since I can be honest now, I feel like I have to catch up."
"Catch... Up? What do you-"
"Okay, so!" You rested your arm along the top of the stylish couch. "I always thought you were cool when you'd trick me into doing my work. I pretended to have a problem with it, but I couldn't help but be happy when you were there with me."
Mitsuru's eyes widened in surprise, but you didn't stop there. "And you always look great, whatever you wear. But I think that's to be expected since you're so beautiful."
"I, I understand, you don't have to..." Mitsuru started, but her words died out as they reached the air once you leaned in closer.
"But as well as that," you smiled. "I love how beautiful you are on the inside, too."
As expected, her usually pale complexion had become a rosy red, matching her fiery hair. "Where did this all come from?" She said, her voice a soft whisper.
"I told you, I've always been thinking this." You answered sincerely. "That's just part one!"
She smiled, finally looking up at you. As she did, you couldn't help but smile as well. "Out of what?"
"Hmm, infinity?" You responded, and as you heard her laugh quietly you grinned.
Now that you were so close, your eyes drifted down and felt your own face going warm. "Mitsuru, may I... May I kiss you?"
She paused for a moment, but nodded softly, letting her eyelids fall shut.
You didn't lean in right away, but rather instead stayed still, just staring at her expression. This quiet moment was something that was shared just between your both, and knowing that sent your heart skipping a beat. After a short time, you finally got closer and put your lips against hers.
The gentle faraway sounds of city life felt much more distant, and even the chilly draft felt through the open window was easily ignored with the warmth accompanying you at that moment.
