"Y/n-kun, why don't we go somewhere?" Rise's cheerful voice called as you hung up your apron.
It had been a while since you started working at Marukyu and meeting Rise, the granddaughter of the women who owned the shop. At first she was low-spirited, wearing an apathetic mask that couldn't hide the dismal look in her eyes. Since then however there was a change; she became gleeful and much more radiant, which was a nice sight to see.
Truth be told you were worried, even when at first you didn't know her too well. Despite the time with her being short at first, you still enjoyed each and beery second, although it could be nerve-wracking knowing just how many people loved her. You were glad to see her genuinely happy now.
Even if you felt that way though, you were confused with the idea that she wanted to spend time with you outside of work. She attended Yasogami as well, but you were too diffident to actually approach her.
"Huh, me?" You pointed a finger towards yourself with uncertainty, Rise giggling behind her hand at the action.
"Yeah, silly!" She confirmed, smiling at you. "Things have finally quieted down now for me, so we won't have to worry about getting bombarded by fans."
"I see... Well, if you want to..." You answered, still sounding unsure.
Rise shook her head. "If you want to, too! It's not like I want to drag you around..."
After seeing her look to her shoes, you felt bad. It wasn't that you didn't want to, you were just nervous. How could you not be? Still, you didn't want to a misunderstanding to arise from your lack of confidence, so you spoke.
"I, I do!" The words spilled out your mouth in a rush, and you internally winced. "Going some were with you, I mean, I do want."
Rise looked back up at you, expression blank before she smiled brightly. "Then let's go!"
You let out a relieved sigh that wasn't heard. At least you finally got what you wanted to say out, albeit not coming out as smooth as you hoped. You were still in the midst of your thoughts when Rise hooked your arm with hers, leaning into you cosily.
You weren't in quite the same state of relaxation, evident in on your shoulders involuntarily stiffened up. "R... Rise?!"
"Hm? Is this not comfortable?" She wondered, eyebrows drawing together. "Is... This the type of thing you do with your girlfriend?"
"I-It's not that, I just wasn't expecting it." You explained, which was true. "I don't have a girlfriend, anyway..."
"Really?" Her worried expression quickly morphed to excitement, and she smiled to herself. "Then, can I stay like this?"
With how many flips your stomach was doing, you were sure how you even managed to respond. At some pont you did, nodding with a surely red face.
As Rise had said, things had calmed down quite a bit since first meeting her, and the walk was peaceful... Or it would be, if you're heart wasn't racing. Judging by the tempo one would guess you were running a marathon, not taking a leisurely walk. Who could blame you though? Over time you might've developed a crush on her. And to anyone else, it'd look like the two of I you were on a date...
You swiftly shook your head. 'Dont think abut stuff like that! Rise wouldn't want that...' You thought, beginning to frown. You were content with how things were. If you were to confess, it'd ruin that, and she might even think you were trying to get closer to her just to date her. Not that you'd have the courage to confess in the first place, but still.
Your forlorn look didn't go unnoticed by Rise, and she watched you carefully before speaking. "Hey, Y/n-kun."
"Uh, yes?" You suddenly stood straight, not expecting to be spoken to.
