"You're sure Sae would be okay with me staying here?" You asked, looking outside. It was already well past dark, and the last train had already departed.
You had been staying at Makoto's for a bit, and time had flew by. Before you knew it, it was already late. Makoto then suggested you to stay over.
"It should be fine. Sis said she'd be working late anyway, so..." She trailed off as you turned to look at her. Her cheeks went pink. "U-Um, no, I wasn't suggesting anything! I just meant..."
"That'd it be easier, right? I got it." You smiled. "I really wouldn't want to make your sister mad."
"You wouldn't, she likes you." Makoto returned it, brushing her hair bashfully with one hand. "Oh, you haven't ate yet, have you? Why don't I make you something?"
Standing up with her, you shook your head. "Let me help. But uh... Give me some pointers, maybe?"
"Will do." She beamed, and the two of you made it to the kitchen.
It wasn't the first time you saw it, but seeing it up close made you realise how sleek and clean it was. Makoto was looking in the freezer, a concentrated look on her face.
"How about katsudon?" She suggested, glancing to you. "Should be easy, plus filling for you."
Happy she was thinking of you, you smiled a bit. "Sounds great!"
She left you to put the rice in the cooker, as she prepared the pork cutlets, eventually leaving them on the pan to fry. Hearing them sizzle, you looked over and realised how hungry you were.
You approached. "That smells good already."
"It'll taste good, too." Makoto chuckled, and a little noise of surprise left her mouth when you suddenly hugged her. "Wh-What's gotten into you?"
"Nothing. You don't like it...?" You asked her worriedly.
She shook her head quickly. "N-No, I mean yes! Um..."
Makoto held her palms against her cheeks, sighing. You smiled at the display of cuteness.
"I do, it's... Nice." She eventually said, finding her composure.
"I'm glad." You replied, and hugged her tighter. Although you'd been in a relationship for a while, displays of affection were semi-rare. And Makoto being as shy as she was, you didn't want to overstep and make her uncomfortable. But the times you could be affectionate made you really happy, like now.
Makoto blushed as you continued to hug her, but fondly contain her smile either. "You know, I still have to drizzle the egg..."
"Just a bit longer?" You asked.
She chuckled a bit. "I don't want it to burn..."
"Aw, okay." You released her, disappointed but understanding. You were looking forward to eating after all.
Makoto hesitated, keeping her eyes on the pan. "But later, um... I-I don't mind if we resume."
Stunned, you tilted your head to get a glimpse of her face, but could only catch the side of her reddening face. You smiled, and chose not to question it.
"You're so cute." You said, and another surprised noise left her.
"H-Hey!" She stuttered. "Anyway, you're on rice duty, remember?"
"Yes ma'am, that rice'll be perfect."
Makoto chuckled, "We'll see about that."
                                                                          ___________________________________________
