Mitsuru's face twisted in pain for moment as she winced, sighing out the instructions again. "On the left, remember?"

"Ah, right." You responded sheepishly, taking your foot from where it had stepped on hers for the sixth time.

Being that Mitsuru was your girlfriend, you wanted to spend time with her and make her happy. Well, an event was coming up scheduled by her family and she had invited you, checking both those boxes. The only problem was it was of course a formal event, and that included ballroom dancing.

Mitsuru had been patiently teaching you, and was very informative in her words in actions. You just seemed to have been born with two left feet.

The music had been restarted, and the two of you took your stances. Mitsuru had took the lead, but even that didn't take away your stress. You tried your best to avoid stepping on her toes, but instead your ankles had been bumping into hers.

Looking down, you tried to focus and get into the rhythm, but the harder you tried the more difficult it became. As your eyebrows began to furrow, Mitsuru gently tipped your chin up.

"What's wrong?" She asked, tone soft.

The music sounded much more distant now. "I'm just not cut out for this, Misturu. You're better asking someone else to come with you..."

She shook her head at your answer. "That's not true. After all you're my... Date for the event. Wh-Who else could I bring but you...?" Her face went pink as she continued. "I wouldn't give up on you simply because of your experience."

"But I'll embarrass you." You reasoned. "I don't want to do that."

"You wouldn't, rather I'm proud to be by your side. Besides, you'll learn. I know you can do it."

Although you thought it was impossible, your gloomy mood had lightened at her words. "Really? Do you really think I can learn to dance?"

She looked at you with a teasing smile. "Of course. You don't think my teaching would fail, do you?"

"No, no it won't..." You muttered, remembering exams and the many study sessions that were held. Bringing yourself to the situation at hand, you felt more confident now, much more than when you were previously twisting your feet. "Okay, let's try this again!"

With the music looping back to the beginning once more, you took your positions. You were determined to get it right, and Misturu could tell this from the tenseness of your hold.

"You can relax, it'll only hurt your arms if you're so rigid." She suggested.

You looked bewildered before you realised. "Sorry!" As you pulled away slightly to straighten them, she pushed the hand on your back further into herself.

You tried to meet her eyes, but they were directed to the corner of the room. "... You... Can still stay close, can't you?"

An uncontrollable smile reached it's way across your cheeks and you nodded happily, stepping in closer instead. "As long as you're not afraid of me stepping on your feet again."

Mitsuru chuckled. "In the past half-hour I've grown quite the resistance to it."

"I-I didn't do it that much!" You denied, only for her to laugh more.

A few minutes had passed, and within them you found that you were actually capable of ballroom dancing. Mitsuru was a natural, gliding across the floor as if on ice. At first you had struggled along like a foal, but now that you had stopped stressing about it, you managed to find fun in it instead.

After finally finding the rhythm you could follow her no problem, but Mitsuru still found ways to surprise you. As the song neared it's end, she released her hold with one hand and held you out at arms-length with the other. Soon after she twirls you as she pulled you in, leaving you with a ditzy feeling.

"Was that too much? They usually end with a flashy finish such as that." She explained.

"No... Just unexpected." You said after a few seconds of awe. She moved to remove her arms from your waist, but you kept your hands in hers.

She made a noise of surprise from behind you. Turning your head, you chuckled. "You can still stay close, can't you?" You asked, smiling more as she blushed.

"I, I can..." She mumbled. "A hug like this is a first though."

"I like it, it's nice." You admitted, laying your head against her shoulder. The heat radiating off her face could be felt even from there.

Slowly, she shyly rested her head against the top of yours "I do, as well."
