Morgana was a little bored as he walked around the streets. Sure he wouldn't turn down a scenic walk, and it helped stretch his legs after being in Akira's bag all day; but there wasn't much else to do.

'Oh well, nothing wrong with some exercise.'  He thought to himself. 'And this'll benefit me in the long run. Lady Ann will surely notice, nyeheh.'

Thinking that, there was a skip in Morgana's step. He would've happily strolled all around the block once more, but something stopped him. Or rather, someone.

A child sat on the steps, chin resting on their knees. A dejected look covered their features, until their gaze felt to the pavement. Then their face lit up.

"A cat... !" Lowering their hands, they tried to beckon him over. "Here, here."

Morgana grimaced. He wasn't a cat! But... He supposed he could go along with it this time. He didn't know why they looked so sad, but if this cheered them up, so be it.

"M-Meow..." Morgana said reluctantly, and the child laughed happily.

"You're so cute." They said, and scratched behind his ears.

Cute!? He was annoyed for a moment, but the pets made him forget all about it. Just this once, he'll let it slide...

Morgana found himself meowing without meaning to, and the child continued to laugh softly. He peered up for a moment, and their eyes looked sad.

"I wish I could take you home. But I don't think my parents would like that..." Then as their hand moved past his neck to his collar, they smiled a little. "Well, you have a home anyway. That's good!"

He paused. If only more people understood him. He had a lot of wise words to give after all! But...

Morgana purred this time, rubbing his head against the child's hand. They laughed happily.

"Does this mean you like me? Hehe..." Their smile faltered as they continued. "I wish everyone was as nice as you..."

At that, Morgana sighed sadly. If only there was more to him than this cat body- he could help more, he was sure.

For now, he stuck around for longer- curling around the child's ankles.

The hot summer nights were hard to sleep through, especially with fur like this. Morgana (although he told Akira to) couldn't sleep, not even in his most comfortable positions. If only he could have a midnight snack like sushi, or tuna...

In his restlessness and slight boredom, he left Leblanc and stretched happily. Although dark, the streets of Yongen-jaya were familiar, so he had no discomfort in wandering alone in the night.

With the stores all closed, the neighbourhood was quiet- save for the drunk man near the bathhouse who mumbled incoherently. Morgana rolled his eyes, but then something else pricked his ears.

The sound of crying, and it was close.

Morgana walked quietly, closer to the noise. He neared the laundromat, and peeked around the corner.

Sitting on the stool, knees to their chest was the child from a few days ago. Morgana wouldn't admit it, but he was pretty worried for them. He would ask Akira to take detours in the area to see if he could spot them again, but no luck. He figured that all was well, and there was no need for them to be sitting outside anymore.

'Seems that was false...' Morgana thought, feeling troubled.

Without further hesitation, he entered the laundromat, hopping on the washing machine. He shook a bit at the movement, and the child looked up in surprise.

"Kitty? O-Oh, careful!" They said, panicked, and reached down to turn it off.

Morgana stopped wobbling, and tried to give his thanks. "Meow."

Tears were still falling from their eyes, and the neck of their t-shirt was wet, as if used as a tissue. They seemed to realise that, and sniffed, wiping their eyes.

Once again, Morgana cursed his inability to speak outside the Metaverse. How could he possibly help someone like... like this!?

Frustrated and determined, he huffed and jumped into their lap without thinking. He curled up comfortably, saying without words 'I'm here, and I'm staying!'

Taken aback at first, the child soon warmed up in an instant, laughing. "I didn't think I'd see you again... I'm glad I did! Even if it's like this..."

Morgana opened his eyes, and noticed the washing machine was empty. He flickered his gaze to them, seeing their sad smile. And despite the summer heat, the hands that stroked his fur were cold.

A few hiccups would still leave them; choked sobs that they tried to hold back. But after a little while, they calmed, Morgana purring at them all the while. He glanced up again, feeling drowsy at the comfort- to see the child dozing off as well.

He felt at ease. Maybe he could help... even in this form.

Eventually the sky had brightened, rays of light filled what it could of the laundromat. There was a distant sound of a tin being shook, and as it grew closer, so did a figure.

"Morgana... Hm?" Akira peered around, seeing the slumped form of a youth over a black and white cat. Both were sleeping still.

"..." He pondered for a moment. "I'll ask later."

And so he left, deciding to prepare some snacks.
