For Naoto, whenever there was something that seemed otherwise unsolvable, she would go out of her way to figure it out. If she put her mind to it, she could find the answer. However as much as she tried, there was one thing couldn't wrap her mind around; yourself.
To the naked eye you resembled any other student, but to the detective you were quite the curious case, and she couldn't help but be intrigued. The reasons for that were several.
Naoto first noted that you weren't very talkative in class. Between subjects you wouldn't chat with friends, you'd simply wait until the next lesson in silence. Despite your lack of interaction though, you weren't shy. The times you did speak, whether it be answering a question in class or giving a brief 'good morning' were always just that; blank and perfunctory.
Another thing she observed was that although your responses came across as indifferent, your overall demeanour wasn't that of rudeness, rather you just seemed to have an apathetic nature. Nonetheless, you were well acquainted by your classmates even with your bluntness, something that slightly surprised Naoto.
You really were interesting, and the fact that the ace detective couldn't quite wrap her head around you only motivated her more to figure you out. To even begin to do so though, she had to talk to you first.

The first floor proved to be a good spot to have the opportunity to speak, being that it not only held the entrance but the first year classes were also located there.
Now the only thing Naoto had to plan was her words. What could she open up with? She knew almost nothing about you, and there was nothing in class she needed help with either. It wasn't as if she could talk about cases, could she...?
"... Shirogane-san?"
After jumping slightly, Naoto composed herself as she turned to meet the source of the voice, only to be startled at the face she saw looking back at her.
She returned the greeting. "L/n-san, hello."
You simply stared, expression impassive. "You've been standing here for a while."
"O-Oh, have I?" Being caught off guard, Naoto cleared her throat. "I was just lost in thought."
"Thinking about cases?" You guessed, but you didn't sound particularly interested in her answer.
Knowing that was just your regular tone, Naoto responded as she usually would.
"A, a case? Well..." She was trying to solve something, but it might be not be wise to unveil this information just yet. "You could say that. Although I've been having trouble trying to approach the situation at hand..."
"I can help." You stated. The phlegmatic delivery of your sentence had Naoto uncertain, prompting you to continue. "Well, if I can. You're the detective after all."
Naoto smiled to herself, readjusting her cap. "That's quite alright... Thank you." The conversation lulled for a moment, causing her to feel diffident and unsure of what to say next. "I presume you're heading home now?"
You answered with ease and a shake of your head. "No."
"Ah. I, I see." Naoto blinked. She hadn't matched your wavelength yet. "You have a club, then? I was wondering what that case was for."
Lifting up the case slightly, you gave it a light shake. "Yeah, music."
"I must admit, I never would've thought you'd be the type for music."
