The last of the winter's snow fluttered from the dark velvety sky, no longer sticking to the ground. The streets illuminated only by the streetlights of Yongen-Jaya. It was much cosier inside a certain café, as nestled under blankets was yourself and your boyfriend, a purring heat source curled up in your lap.
From the many rented DVDs you had watched together you felt yourself grow drowsy, but you didn't want to let yourself sleep yet. A single thought was in your mind, plaguing you with doubts and worry.
It had been clear from the start of course, but with all the distractions you had over the year it had momentarily slipped your mind until now, where everything had been solved and all loose ends had been tied. Except that, the thing you knew couldn't be avoided. Although you knew the reality of the situation, it didn't make your heartache fade.
Your sleepy expression had tensed as you thought, and it didn't go unnoticed. Akira lightly nudged you, lifting his arm and allowing you to fall into him.
"What's wrong?"
You pressed your lips together, silence being heard instead of an answer. Akira simply tipped his head to the side, the low light of the dusty attic reflecting off the lens. Taking in a breath, you averted your eyes.
"You'll be leaving soon, right...?"
His grip on your shoulder tightened unconsciously, but in no way did it hurt. "... That's right."
You nodded, gaze becoming further downcast. What else could you say? He was here because of his probation, and soon enough he'd be able to finally go home. That was good, wasn't it? You tried to tell yourself, but the aching in your chest failed to cease.
"Well..." You started, attempting to keep your tears at bay. "I guess things will be back to normal then. I'll be here, and you'll be in the countryside. It'll be like nothing even happened..."
"Lots of things did." He answered your unspoken concern. "And I won't forget any of it."
Unable to control your tears, one ran down your cheek and you hurriedly wiped it away. You were afraid to ask, but the question slipped past your lips without you even thinking. "What about me?"
Akira leant in to meet your eyes, his nose just an inch away from yours. He steadily raised a hand to your cheek, stroking it reassuringly with his thumb. As another tear fell, he was quick to brush it away. "I'll never forget you."
You were unconvinced. Over the years you had friendships, but slowly but surely a distance made its way in between, and you drifted apart from all of them. That was part of the reason being with the thieves meant so much to you, they had changed that and your worries had vanished. Now though, it seemed it was only going to continue as they were. You feared you'd all drift apart from another, just like they had for your past friendships.
The feeling of that underlying dread felt so much worse when you imagined the same thing would happen with Akira.
As usual, he was two steps ahead, and leaned forward so his nose lightly bumped against yours. You looked up in surprise, seeing his unwavering dark eyes stare right back into yours. Suddenly, all your worries tumbled out of your mouth in a quick jumble. It was a wonder he even understood it.
"I-I'm scared, Akira." You started, inhaling sharply. "I like the way things are, even though we had to deal with a ton of stuff, and it was stressful, all of it meant so much to me!" You admitted. "I'm scared that once you'll leave, we won't talk anymore. You'll be busy and we'll talk less and less, until we won't talk at all-"
You found you couldn't speak anymore as Akira had gently pressed your lips against yours, interrupting your panicked spiel. When he eventually parted from you, you felt breathless, but a comforting warmth had spread though your chest despite your heart beating at a fast pace.
"Akira...?"
His hand hadn't moved from your cheek. "I told you, I'll never forgot you. There's no way I could."
"But..." You mumbled, uncertain.
"I love you." He said genuinely, prompting you to stare up at him in awe. It wasn't as if you had doubted his feelings all this time, but hearing him say it outright had your face heating up.
Feeling suddenly shy, you looked at the collar of his clothes to avoid his intense gaze. "I... I love you too. More than anything."
He smiled, tilting your chin up. "Then there's no need to be worried."
Your eyes glimmered with new unshed tears. "I don't want you to go." You confessed finally. "I, I want to stay with you, and for you to stay with me."
Akira's expression softened with quiet understanding as he nodded. "We will. Maybe not immediately, but one day."
"What do you mean...?"
"Y/n." He softly called your name. "In the future, when I'm confident enough, will you stay by my side?"
Still puzzled, you nodded. "Y-Yes, of course... I'm so happy being your girlfriend."
"Not as my girlfriend."
Hearing his words a quick flash of anxiety shot through you, until the twisting in your stomach ceased to instead be a overwhelming amount of butterflies. Your lips opened and closed, and after some time you managed to speak in spite your trembling.
"A-Akira, are you saying...?"
He looked bashful, a rare but welcoming sight, as his dark eyes flickered between yours. "Not right now. But one day, in the future, when we're ready... I want you to stay by my side... As my wife."
The tears that had been building up in your eyes previously were ones of misery, but now could only be described as tears of joy. You lunged forward instinctually wrapping your arms around him tight. "D-Do you mean it? Really?"
He was caught off guard by the sudden hug, but reciprocated it, hiding his warm face in your neck. "I do. I know we're both young, but I can't imagine being with anyone but you."
You nodded. "I will. I will."
Akira smiled, holding you closer. "... Thank you."
"Why are you thanking me?" You laughed weakly, finding it difficult from your sobbing voice. "You're such a weirdo sometimes."
"Mhm, a bit." He didn't pay your lighthearted insult any mind, simply enjoying the hug.
The hug lasted for a while, but even as the sky grew even darker and the clock ticked on, it still didn't feel like long enough. The crushing feeling weighing down on your heart has finally lifted, and now you felt nothing but light, knowing that even if it wasn't now, you'd be together again.
A cat on the other hand wasn't as happy, being abruptly awoken from his nap from all the commotion.

A/N: This isn't a request, I just had this idea in my mind for a while.
1. The dancing games are finally out! I've been playing P5D so far and really enjoying it, and I plan to play P3D once I unlock everything. Are there any songs you enjoy the most? I love all of them, it's hard to pick!
2. JOKER'S IN SMASH! I'm so excited, it's amazing that he made it in! I'm really looking forward to the stage and music he'll have. It's hard to really convey how happy I am just through text, but I am! 😊🎉
Also sorry if the formatting is weird, I was typing this on my phone. ^^
