With your palms pressed against the sides of your face, you sighed into your drink, the straw bobbing amongst the ice. What a lonely day it was.
You originally came to the diner to study since nobody was free, but after trying to read the same page for over fifteen minutes, it was clear that plan had ultimately failed. Over the rows of seats you could hear the sound of chatting, which only weighed down your already heavy heart further.
For a while you just closed your eyes, internally berating yourself for feeling so pathetic. That was when you felt movement close to you, and a voice paired with it.
"Is this seat taken?"
It sounded strangely familiar, but you chalked that up to being tired. You shook your head, opening yours eyes. "No, it's... Ah-! Goro?!"
Softly chuckling, Akechi took a seat. "Hello. I didn't think I'd be able to see you today."
"Me neither..." You muttered shyly. It wouldn't be obvious to anyone else, but the two of you were actually dating. It began when you bumped into him during the busy hour at the station. From there it simply seemed to be fate, as you'd continuously run into each other (thankfully not literally... Most of the time) and however brief those moments are, they were enjoyable nonetheless.
Eventually you worked up the courage to tell him your feelings, and it brought you here. You understood he always had his hand full with work, but you couldn't deny to yourself the loneliness that you felt, especially on a day like today.
However that feeling quickly diminished as Akechi sent you a genuine smile.
"Did you finish work already?" You asked curiously.
"Yes, I did." He replied, a hand running through his fringe. "I was able to leave early. It's quite the rarity."
Despite your tries you couldn't stop yourself from smiling, bashfully fiddling with your straw to distract yourself. "I... I see."
Akechi tilted his head. "And you?"
"Oh!" You chuckled awkwardly. "Well, everyone was busy so I decided to study. I couldn't really focus though..."
His dark eyes flickered from your face to your books scattered haphazardly on the table.
"Why not take a break then? I'm sure it wouldn't hurt."
"You don't need to tell me twice." You responded, closing the book and placing them in your bag.
Akechi laughed from the other side of the table. "What a refreshing answer. I wish I could do the same."
You paused, unsure what to say. "I know..." An idea then sprung to mind. "Th-Then why don't we make the most of today? Since you're usually busy and everything..."
As you spoke your words became less and less confident, your voice quieting as you eventually trailed off. He probably thought you were being whiny, didn't he?
Unlike your current over-imaginative scenarios of him being frustrated by you and throwing your juice in your face, the Akechi in front of you simply blinked before he nodded. "Of course, I was just about to say that myself."
"Really?" Your face lit up, which didn't go unnoticed by him. He smiled contentedly, eyes softening.
"I should look at some places we can go then!" You said more to yourself than him, hurriedly fishing your phone from your pocket and typing. "Ah, there's so much to do that I can't barely think of one! Um..."
As you began to stress over it, Akechi slid his hand over so that it covered your own. Even with his hands covered by those familiar gloves, the warmth held within them still spread to your palms.
