What would've been a good day quickly turned sour. You were simply killing time by your desk, scrolling and every so often checking the digital clock at the top of the page. An article popped up in your feed featuring your number one interest and without much thought you tapped it, reading away and soon tuning out the things around you.
That was until you heard the mumbling of voices behind you. Raising your head, you turned to see two of your classmates, exchanging looks with one another.
"Sorry, what?" You asked politely.
Through muffled snickers, they answered. "Are you seriously into that?"
You raised an eyebrow, honestly confused until you followed their pointed finger, directed at your phone screen. You remained puzzled, but a feeling of dread was slowly making itself known in your gut.
"... Yeah, what about it?"
One of them lowered their voice, but you could still decipher a 'see, told you!' despite that fact. The other smiled with snark, eyes full of contempt. "Isn't that too [feminine/masculine]? It's pretty weird."
Their friend laughed again, and despite the classroom being near empty, you felt as though all eyes were in you, each one more judging than the last. The feeling in your stomach worsened, and just as a lump formed in your throat you managed to stand up, grabbing your bag and storming out.
After rushing down the steps and twisting your ankle in your hurry, you made it outside. Still you couldn't find it in yourself to stop. If you did even for a moment, you were sure you'd begin to cry.
You were halfway through Central street when you collided with an object. Or at least you thought it was, until you looked up to see it was in fact a person.
"Oh, Y/n. I was just about to go meet y-" Akechi stopped mid sentence, his hand instinctually going to your cheek. "What happened?"
"What?" You were as confused as he is, but you internally winced at how weak your voice sounded.
Akechi's response was delayed for a moment as he thought to himself. "You're crying."
You lightly brushed a hand against your eyes, and sure enough he was right. There goes the that plan.
"Tell me." He said softly. "Are you alright?"
You nodded, averting your eyes. "Can we go somewhere else?"
"Of course." Akechi led you along by the hand, looking side to side for a quiet place. He soon began to walk, you following with your teary directed at the pavement below you. The two of you eventually made it inside, and when you finally looked up you were taken aback.
Akechi chuckled sheepishly. "It's not quite the place I had in mind, but it still gives us a moment to relax." He explained.
And so the both of you got a room. The karaoke place was an objectively fun place, but it wasn't serving that purpose for you at the moment. You felt silly for being so affected by what was said, but you couldn't help it.
Akechi noticed this too, leaning forward to meet you eyes with a gentle call of your name.
Your grip tightened on your uniform unconsciously as you attempted to word your thoughts. "It's... Nothing. A-Actually, it's pretty stupid."
You forced a laugh, but it came out as a choked sob. Akechi didn't hesitate to put a hand over your whitening knuckle. "If it's making you upset, then it can't be nothing."
"It's just..." You paused, biting your lip. Could you tell him? Maybe he'd laugh or find it weird, like those two from earlier. You stole a glance at him, only to see him look back at you with warmth in his gaze.
Finally, you spoke. "Do you think it's weird to like something that's, I don't know... Seen as more of a [feminine/masculine] thing?"
Akechi blinked. "No, I wouldn't say so. Why do you ask?"
What he said brought you some ease, but still you couldn't control your restless fidgeting. "Well... Some people disagree, I guess."
Although the detective could gather what you meant from your vague answers, he wanted to know for sure. "Did this happen today?"
Just from the simple question you spilt everything without thought. You feared it'd be seen as silly, but you found that when you voiced everything aloud, an imaginary weight had lifted from your shoulders. Akechi was supportive all throughout, rubbing your shoulder as you explained.
You eventually finished, wiping your face. "I know this probably sounds stupid."
He shook his head. "No, not at all. To be pestered like that would upset anyone." His gaze directed down, towards his lap. "I'm sorry I couldn't be there."
"It's okay. I'm feeling a lot better now." You said sincerely, managing to smile after your firstly stressful day. Akechi smiled back, relieved.
A short, peaceful moment of silence passed when he spoke up. "So, you never told me you like [interest]."
"Ah, well..." You hesitated. "I, I thought maybe you'd think it was weird, me liking something like that. So I didn't say anything..."
"Of course not. I actually find it rather interesting."
Wide-eyed, you turned to him. "Really? You're not just saying that?"
"Quite the opposite." Akechi grinned a bit, standing up. "Why don't you tell me about it while we walk? We did have a date planned after all."
With the feeling of roaming butterflies replacing the churning of your stomach from before, you stood up with enthusiasm, before feeling something else, a sharp pain shorting up your leg.
Akechi heard your cry of pain, expression lost for a moment before his eyebrows drew together in worry. "Wh-What is it? Are you alright?"
His eyes fell to your hand that had clutched onto your ankle. You laughed awkwardly. "I, um, was in a rush. I guess I twisted it and didn't notice it..."
"I see." He said. You were focused on the sharp pain in your leg that when Akechi turned his back to you and crouched, you were monetarily puzzled. When you understood, an instant blush flooded your cheeks.
"W-Wait, are you sure? I can probably walk, so-"
"Please, let me. You deserve to rest for a moment." He kindly replied.
Feeling slightly unsteady, you climbed on, tentativley wrapping your arms around his neck. "Okay... Thanks." You mumbled.
"Not a problem." Akechi answered. "I suppose we'll be taking a detour then. I know a clinic that's relatively close, so we'll get there soon."
You nodded, but the warmth emanating through his coat had you feeling drowsy as you lay your head flat against his shoulder. Although he couldn't see it, he sensed your sleepy state and smiled, keeping a steady pace as to not disturb you.

Thank you so much for your patience! I feel like this was a bit lackluster, I'm sorry. Honestly I was a bit stumped for this particular oneshot, but I tried to make it fluffy to make up for its shortcomings. 😅
