"Didn't you say you'd be more careful?" Yukiko chided gently, frowning at your bruises. You shrugged sheepishly.
"Well..."
She sighed. It had been another trip to the TV world, and you had been caught in a few rough battles. It hadn't been the first time you had fought without exercising caution, so her patching you up had became a ritual between you.
"It's really dangerous to do that..." She added, taking your hand in hers. The contact made your fingers tingle, but not any more than the rubbing alcohol she put on your knuckles. You stifled a hiss at the pain.
"I know. But at least I have a dedicated healer." You said, hoping it'd lift the mood. It seemed to work, as her lips quirked up in a shy smile.
"I'm not saying it because taking care of you is a bother, or anything." Yukiko explained, and her eyes dimmed. "I just... It worries me."
Her statement was unexpected, and so you raised your eyebrows, puzzled. "You're worried? ... About me?"
"... Why wouldn't I be?" She returned the question, avoiding your eyes. "I hate seeing you like this... And it's my fault."
"Huh? What do you..." You started, but Yukiko's soft shake of her head prompted you to stop.
"I've noticed, you always jump in front of me when I'm about to get attacked." She said, face forlorn. "That's why you're always in such bad shape afterwards."
You couldn't deny it, and instead you looked at her apologetically. "That's... True."
"But why? You know I can take of myself."
You paused, unsure how to answer. "I... Do know that. But I'm the same as you."
Yukiko finally met your eyes, and you continued. Feeling her soft hands encasing yours, it gave you the courage to continue. "I don't want to see you hurt. So I just take the hit on instinct."
Her response wasn't immediate, as she simply stared at you for a moment. Then, she began to giggle.
"That's so silly... But it looks like we were thinking the same thing all this time." She smiled. "But still, you don't have to turn yourself into a punching bag."
"Yeah..." You agreed with a chuckle of your own. "But I'll miss this if I don't."
"Hm?" At Yukiko's quizzical head tilt, you grinned.
"Well, we won't get to have our one to one chats like this anymore."
Once pale, her completion began to be a pink hue. "Th-That's not completely true... We can always talk. I'd be happier if we did that and you didn't have to get hurt every time."
"So, when's good for you?" You leant forward in interest, and she blinked a few times.
"S-Some other time! You still need to get patched up, remember." Yukiko said, feigning seriousness. Remembering that she had been holding your hand though, a meek smile had spread on her face.
Content with that answer, you let her work away like any other time, and as always she was careful in her ministrations. If the previous conversation didn't already have your face warm, her gentle touch did the job. When she was done, you looked over the neatly wrapped bandages.
"There." She said, satisfied. "That's the last time you be reckless, okay?"
Her pinky was outstretched as she held it in front of you, and you linked it with yours. "I promise."
"Good!" Yukiko smiled brightly at your reply. "And... When you're completely healthy, we can go somewhere. If you'd like to."
It seemed to be a struggle for her to maintain eye contact with you, and you smiled at the shyness she had. "Really?"
"Yes. But only when you've recovered!" Yukiko reiterated. "...I promise."
Unable to control your smile, you nodded happily. Yukiko seemed to share it. "I'm looking forward to it!"
