A summer festival, a place of lanterns illuminating every path, stalls decorating each side, the scent of taiyaki wafting through the air- and many, many people.
You eyed Futaba as she stood stiffly in her yukata, muttering to herself. "You okay, Futaba?"
"Y-Yep, I'm fine... Just dizzy, and my chest is all tight..." She mumbled in reply, and you shook your head.
"That's not fine!" You lightly chided. "Come on, want to go find a quiet place?"
She shook her head fervently. "No! I wanted to try everything out at a summer festival. I said on my promise list I would."
Smiling at her persistence, you sighed. "Okay, but remember, you can take a break whenever. There's no harm in that."
"Understood! You forget that I conquered the great Akihabara stampede, so this'll be nothing." Futaba stated proudly, and you pat her head.
"Yep, you sure did."
"Bwa-huh?!" Futaba let out an indescribable noise, eyes wide behind her large glasses. "U-Um, anyway, l-let's go get something to eat! Yakitori, or yakisoba, or, or-"
"We'll be able to try them all, don't worry. Hey, there's a yakisoba stand right there!" You pointed. Luckily it was without customers at the moment, and the man behind looked friendly.
You looked to Futaba. "Want to order, or should I?"
"Um, uh... I need to think of a script first."
You tilted your head in questioning. "Script?"
"So I know what I'm going to say. If I don't, I just can't think and the words don't come out..." Futaba frowned sadly.
"Oh." You could understand now. "Then how about this, 'two yakitori, please', can you do that?"
Her face looked a little lighter, and her eyes flashed determinedly. "Y-Yeah, I can!"
Both of you approaching it, Futaba whispered the words until she was at the counter of the stand. She raised her head, looking reluctant for a moment before she repeated the sentence again.
"T-Two yakitori, please!"
"Sure!" The man behind answered, and went to work.
Futaba turned to you, face bright with a smile. "I did it!"
A few short moments later, the man returned. "Here, for the lady and her boyfriend."
"Lady? W-W-Wait, boyfriend-?" Futaba scrambled to speak, but the man just laughed, and just in time another customer appeared behind you both.
You were back on the path again, enjoying yakitori. Futaba hadn't said much since the stall, and her cheeks looked pink under the lanterns lights.
"What's up? Is the yakitori too hot?" You asked.
She sprung to life, waving her hand. "No, it's good!"
"Really? You look a little flushed."
"That's just because it's summer, that's all!" She insisted.
"Oh, right." Looking around the stalls, you hummed. "Should we get some fans then?"
Futaba also searched quickly, finding a stall. "Y-Yeah! Oh, they have masks too." She instantly looked excited again, "Let's go look!"
You followed as she suddenly took off, not too far behind. Before you would've been worried, but she had really took great strides since you met her a year ago. It was nice to see, and you were happy for her.
