As people got into high school, they grew to become more independent and do things themselves. You couldn't say you were exactly like that... Since you've now just realised you still relyed on your parents to make your bento for school.
Why was this thought on your mind out of the blue? The answer was that your parents, now busy with work, told you that they couldn't spare anytime to make you lunch. You didn't mind it at the time, just telling them to have a good day.
At first you had no problems, you were comfortable alone in your house! Your bento lunches seemed simple enough, too. You could make them, right?
That positive attitude quickly died as you stared down at the final product. By some cruel and unusual turn of events, parts of your lunch was burnt, the other parts raw. How did you manage that?
... You'll be fine on your own though! Your parents wouldn't be gone for long anyway, so everything would go smoothly!

Unfortunately, things didn't go smoothly. The alarm on your phone seemed to ring endlessly until you stubbornly cancelled it, allowing yourself to sleep in. When you woke up again, wondering why something felt amiss, you realised you had to go to school.
After quickly pulling on your uniform and shoes, you ran out the door while still shoving last night's homework into your school bag. It seemed you hadn't completely ran out of good luck, as your teacher thankfully had no qualms about the state of your work.
You couldn't help but sigh to yourself in your chair, the melancholic feeling of helplessness only amplifying with the sound of your stomach rumbling reaching your ears. The sandwich you purchased at the start of lunch was looking more and more in edible as you gazed at it solemnly.
"Uh... What are you staring at that sandwich for?" A voice spoke.
You stopped your staring contest with your lunch, glancing up. Your good friend Kanji was looking down at you with a confused expression.
"Oh, hey. No reason." You wearily replied.
Silence ensued as maintained eye contact with Kanji, him growing more restless by the second.
"A-Are you gonna eat that or what? Lunch ain't going on forever." He told you, dragging a seat over and sitting down.
You nodded with the lowest amount of enthusiasm man. "Yeah, I will. I'll have to get used to eating it, so..."
His eyes widened a bit in surprise. "Huh? What'dya mean by that?"
In your tired state you had ended up spilling more then you planned. Now that Kanji was waiting for an answer, you couldn't think of any way to change the topic of conversation.
You looked down slightly, feeling more than a little stupid. "Well... My parents usually make lunch, but they're busy with work."
"How come you don't just make yourself lunch?" Kanji asked blankly, not quite understanding your dilemma.
"I don't know how. I tried last night and it was a mess." You confessed, focusing your eyes on the old desk in front of you. "I couldn't even wake myself up on time..."
Hearing nothing but silence in response, you hesitantly glanced up at your misunderstood friend, seeming him hold a thoughtful expression. He felt your puzzled gaze on him, and looked to the side.
"I could uh, teach ya, if you want..." He offered.
"Teach?" You echoed, as if you didn't believe it. "You'll teach me how to make lunch?"
