You didn't mind country life. Although most hated it due to its sparse streets and lack of work, and you could admit having to wait two hours for a bus was annoying, it was peaceful and, to put it simply, it was your home.
You could agree though that it was difficult to earn money. As a teenager, your parents decided it was time for you to make your money instead of being given an allowance. The only place available was the petrol station, which were already filled to the brim with workers. Then there was Junes, but your family didn't particularly like it.
That left the shopping district, where most shops were managed fine by one person. You didn't know enough about Chinese cooking to work at Aiyas, and any other shops you considered working at had closed already.
Luckily though, on your way back from school, an old women called out to you. It was the woman who tended to that tofu shop, Marukyu Tofu.
"Hello, can you help me?" She called, crouching slightly.
You stopped, turning to her. "Uh, yeah? What's wrong?"
She smiled, her eyes crinkling at the sides. "What a nice boy. I just need a little bit of help around the shop, but if you're too busy..."
Waving your hands dismissively, you disagreed. "No, no! I-I'm free, definitely."
"Great, then! My granddaughter is coming soon, and I have a feeling it'll be busy. You'll be a big help." She said kindly, bowing her head.
Although she was only being nice, her words made your cheeks flush.
"Oh, right... What kind of stuff will I be doing?" You asked.
"Just some sweeping, taking orders for us. Don't worry, it'll go fine, I'm sure." She reassured. Suddenly she put a wrinkled hand over her mouth, eyes wide.
"Oh! I'm missing my shows. Come by tomorrow, and you can meet who you'll be working with. Bye bye now!"
With a rushed but nevertheless kind goodbye, the old woman turned and disappeared back into the shop.
You were still shocked by her sudden offer, but was happy. You could clean up, no problem! But then, there was the problem of taking people's orders. You'd have to talk to them for that...
You clenched your fists, determined. 'It'll go fine! This is the best chance I've got on getting a well-paying job!'
With those upbeat thoughts in your mind, you continued on in the direction of your house.

"Hey son, school go okay?"
You took your shoes off, stepping into the house. "Yeah, dad." Was your answer, simply out of routine. Everyday was the same, and nothing really interesting happened to you... Wait!
With a quick pace, you walked into the living room, trying to mask your excitement and nervousness for tomorrow.
"A-Actually, I kinda have a job now." You stuttered out.
Your father looked up from the stove, looking surprised. After his initial shock, he gave you a proud grin, reaching over and ruffling your hair.
"That so? Attaboy, knock 'em dead!" He said, a deep chuckle escaping him.
'Knock who dead...' You thought, smiling back at him hopelessly.
Your dad set the heat to low, turning to you with interest. "So?"
"... Huh? What?"
"The job! What've you got, an office job?" He asked, bursting into laughter. You never really understood your dad's sense of humour...
