The moment you met Ken on the first day of school, it was as if the two of you were made to be friends. You'd always chat in between classes, and at time when you'd forget to bring lunch, he'd share some of his own. He was so easy to talk to, although at first glance a bit blank due to how quiet he was.

That exterior made him quote popular with many others in your class, and while you were happy that he was getting along well with people, you couldn't deny the slight jealousy you felt.

When lunch rolled around, you got up and walked to his desk, smiling cheerfully. "Ken! Want to go eat on the roof? I saw the newest episode of-"

From seemingly out of nowhere two girls approached, beaming. "Amada-kun, are you busy?"

"We could really use some help." The other girl spoke up, clasping onto her hands. "We can't understand what the teachers talking about. But you'd probably be a good teacher!"

The first girl nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah! So, please?"

Feeling awkward with all the attention, Ken turned to you apologetically. "S-Sorry, it looks like I'll be busy for a bit."

While the two girls cheered to themselves, you fought to keep your smile up. "Oh, right! It's fine, really."

He looked unconvinced. "Are you sure...?"

A half-hearted laugh left you as you waved your hand. "Of course! I'll see you later."

"Yeah, I'll see you..." Ken replied, but you had already begun walking away. A frown settled on his face for just a second before the girls started talking to him again.

A feeling of guilt surfaced as you left the classroom, and all tries of not acknowledging it failed. Thankfully the roof was empty, and your only company was the calming blue sky above you and the sound of the windmills slowly turning.

You felt silly. What was there to get upset about? Ken was just helping his classmates, that was a good thing!

'Next time, we'll hang out, and then I'll stop feeling like this.'  You thought to yourself and you leant your head back, watching the clouds go by. '... I hope.'

                              ___________________________________________

Your hope for things to go like they used to didn't work in your favour, as the new normal was turning out to be Ken being busy with other people. Be it with his club or with helping people study, or even class duty! It felt like the whole world was against you.

Even still, you didn't speak your true feelings aloud. You really admired how mature Ken was, what would he think of you if you started to complain about being alone for a couple days?

You'd hate it if he didn't want to stay friends with you. In fact, just the thought was making you feel sick.

The roof was slowly becoming less of a comfortable place, and more of a staple of your lonely misadventures. Instead you walked around the school, the outside almost as empty as you were feeling.

When walking nearer to the fence, you heard something. Pausing, you looked around. It sounding like... Digging?

Inspecting the school yard further, your eyes rested on the fence itself, lowering until you saw a familiar white dog on the other side.

"K-Koro-chan?" You knelt down, reaching out to pet him. He barked in response, tail wagging in happiness at your presence.

"What are you doing here? Pets aren't allowed in school." You reprimanded softly, but smiled when he nuzzled your hand. "... I am glad to see you though."
