The constant whispering in the halls of Shujin had upgraded to a loud constant chattering throughout the school, all due to one reason. It was the culture festival, something many students were looking forward to. Classmates had worked together to make food stands and other things to be enjoyed.
... Your class wasn't so creative. Everyone put off coming up with something, so a quick decision had to be made, and that was to make a resting area. At least the place you all set up looked nice, but people weren't going to actually wait around in such a depressing hallway!
You also had some snacks and bottles of water, but with there being so many café's and the like, you didn't see how they'd be needed either.
'Ah, well. At least we have something.' You thought to yourself with a sigh. Although you wished you could have been doing something more fun than standing around. It felt a bit lonely.
You also wish that all the work wasn't just thrust upon you, but the decision was made so quickly you couldn't even respond properly, let alone disagree! If only you switch shifts... Or leave, since it's been about a half hour and it was becoming increasingly evident nobody was coming.
It seemed like you were completely alone, until you could hear a slight muffled groaning coming from down the hall. Your surroundings were already so creepy, so hearing that certainly didn't help!
Your shaking hands clenched onto your school blazer, involuntarily biting your lip. 'It can't be a ghost... Can it?'
The noise only seemed to grow louder, as if the source was coming closer. There was nowhere to run, and in your fear your squeezed your eyes shut. As the noise become louder, it sounded strangely human-like.
Hesitantly opening your eyes, you saw boy around your age hunched over with a pained expression. But you felt like you knew his face...
"A-Akechi?!" You stuttered out. You did hear that he was visiting, but you didn't think you'd ever see him face to face like this! ... What was with him anyway?
"Wh-What's wrong?" You questioned tentatively. He opened one eyes, the action looking as if it took a lot of effort as he tried to hold back pained noises.
"N-Nothing... Is wr-wrong..." He mumbled out, but his body betrayed his words as he bent over, his arms wrapping around his torso.
As if you could believe that! He looked like he need some rest.
"U-Um, please sit down! Do you want some water...?" You gingerly guided him to a nearby seat, passing him a bottle. What seemed to be within seconds, the bottle became empty.
His posture seemed a bit more relaxed, as evidenced in the way he slumped over in his seat with his head in his hands.
The sight was quite the surprise, as any time you've seen him on television he always looked so prim and proper. You felt a little bad, but seeing him like almost confirmed he was human for you.
Feeling a little just standings watching him, you spoke up. "Are you okay now? What happened?"
After some silence, he replied, sounding utterly defeated. "... Takoyaki ..."
"Takoyaki?" You repeated, more confused than you were before.
The detective sat up, shaking his head. "Um, it's nothing. Please don't worry about it."
You shuffled your feet. "W-Well, okay..."
Akechi scratched the side of his head, his thick brown hair swaying a bit as he did so. "Thank you for the help. I'm sorry you had to see me like that..."
"No, don't apologise!" You quickly responded, waving your hands. "We all have moments of weakness..."
You've never heard of someone who's weakness was takoyaki though...
He still looked a bit embarrassed, but finally began to match his usual television self as he smiled. "Ah, thank you. That is true."
Silence settled over the two of you, and you were beginning to feel awkward once again. What could you say?!
'He's just a regular person Y/n, you saw that earlier. Just a regular person... Who's a detective... And is on TV...'
"What a stroke of luck for me to find this place! I'm glad to come across another quiet area." To your surprise Akechi spoke first. He really was as charismatic as he was on talk shows.
... But his compliment felt like an insult.
"So it really is as much of a ghost town as it looks." You muttered aloud.
He laughed cheerfully at your statement. "That's not a bad thing, I'm sure it'll come in handy with how busy these events can be. This is a rest area, no?"
"... Well, that is a nice way of looking at it." You agreed, but you couldn't help but sigh. "I just wish my class did something more fun, like a café. Sure it's cliché, but it'd be nice all working together..."
Realising you were trailing off and voicing all your true thoughts, you quickly shut yourself up, feeling embarrassed. However Akechi seemed to take your words quite seriously as he listened to you.
"I see, that's unfortunate." He said quietly. "Still, I don't think your efforts went to waste. This place was very helpful after all."
"T-True..." You mumbled in reply. You weren't expecting anyone to compliment your tries for the culture festival, especially not from a famous detective.
"Um, thank you." You told him genuinely, bowing your head lightly.
Akechi laughed once again. "No need to be so formal, I'm a student myself. It's nice to be able to do things like this, though they are quite few and far between."
His words seemed to ring with a melancholic tone, but it was gone as soon as you even noticed it. He stood up, dusting off his brown jacket.
"Well, I should be going now. It'll be a busy today tomorrow, too." He said with a smile.
You nodded. "Ah, right. You're coming to Shujin tomorrow for the, um..."
With a chuckle he swiped his hair away from his eyes. "Yes, I will be. Can I expect to see you there, as well?"
If you were going to be honest, you didn't have too much interest. There was nothing else you had to do though, and everyone else was probably going to go...
"Um, y-yeah! Good luck with it." You said. "I could never talk in front of a bunch of people like you'll be..."
"I've had some practice recently." Akechi replied jokingly, before politely bidding you a goodbye with a wave.
You watched him go, his walking looking a lot more normal than it did from when he first reached the resting area.
Unlike the rest of what seemed to be the whole of the school, you didn't particularly mind what Akechi said. You thought it was just the news as usual. However seeing him in real life like this and showing some weakness finally confirmed him as human as the rest of you, as mean as it sounded.
Since you said you'd see him tomorrow, you'll have to find out what that thing was really called. You really didn't want to embarrass yourself.

A/N: I hope Akechi wasn't out of character!
Also, I'm sorry for not updating in a little while. I've been exhausted and just not feeling well in general. Due to that I think updates will be slow, but they will happen!
Thank you for reading and being so patient! ^^
