"Is something on your mind?" Makoto questioned. Her soft voice broke you out of your daze, and you lifted your weary eyes from the textbook page that you had been staring at the entire time.
You replied with a shrug. "No... I can't get any of this through my head, actually."
Closing her eyes with a light chuckle, she smiled. "You will. You're capable of wonderful things, I'm sure you can handle this as well." She encouraged warmly.
Her words sparked a smile on your own face. "Really?"
"Of course." Her eyebrows furrowed, making her sweet expression rather intimidating. "I wouldn't be student council president if I couldn't whip some failing students into shape."
"You sound a little scary, Mako..." You laughed a bit. "Plus, isn't that Ann's thing?"
Makoto looked at you, lost for a moment before her face lit up in cognition. As did her cheeks. "Oh! I didn't mean like that...!"
As you continued to chuckle, she sighed and shook her head. "L-Let's continue. Now, what where you stuck on?"
After showing Makoto the current bane of your existence in the form of a question, she explained it in a simple way to understand. You were in awe in how fast you were able to understand it. Before you knew it, the list of questions you were giving yourself a headache over were now answered completely.
"Woah." You marvelled over your work. "Amazing, Mako. No wonder you're top of the class. You're pretty amazing."
She brushed a strand of her dark hair behind her ear, looking modest. "It's only out of practice. If you put effort into studying like you do with fighting shadows, then you'll surpass me in no time."
At your reluctant expression she giggled. "Don't make that face. If you study well, then we can attend the same college, right?"
"That's true." You agreed, turning to smile at her. "I think knowing that will be enough to motivate me for the next exam!"
Makoto's ears burned a rosy red, but she couldn't contain the smile perking up the corners of her lips. "It's so easy for you to say things like that, isn't it...? But I can't honestly say I mind."
A warm feeling in your chest grew seeing her bashful beaming face, and without thinking much about it you leaned forward and kissed her cheek. She made a noise of surprise, making you smile more.
"I can't wait until exams are over." You thought aloud as you sat back on your palms, allowing Makoto a few moments to calm herself. "We haven't had a date in forever."
You caught a glance at her to see her cupping her cheek, and she quickly dropped it and cleared her throat. You held in your chuckle.
"What do you call these, then?" She asked, poking your shoulder with a pen.
"I do like our study dates, but I prefer a setting where I can stare at you. Not a piece of paper." You admitted.
Your girlfriend went silent, seemingly thinking things over in her mind. Seeing that, you gave a dismissive wave of the hand.
"Don't worry though, I'm focusing on work too. As difficult as it is sometimes." You said half-jokingly.
Makoto hid her grin behind her hand. "Alright you Casanova, we can organise another date. We've finished studying, anyway..."
"Really?" You leaned forward in a hurry, and she nodded happily.
"Of course, although it's a bit late. I don't think many places would be open around this time." She informed.
