"Where is he? Is he okay? Oh God, I'm so sorry." The man bursted into the hospital, asking millions of questions of the nurses and doctors. The nurse at the front desk stands up and tries to calm him, but he was an anxious mess.

Steve Rogers had been starting his car to go to work, he was careful to make sure there was nobody around. Not careful enough. He pulled forward just as a man walked past, accidentally hitting him. He skidded to a stop and the man toppled over but Steve panicked as he heard the thwack sound that the man's head made with the pavement. He'd hurried out of his car and done his best; he'd called an ambulance and fretted and worried from then on. He hadn't been able to see the man for several hours while they did their medical magic.

"Please calm down, sir, I'm not sure who you're talking about." She says calmly, a concerned look on her face.

"I don't know his name but I accidentally hit him with my car this morning." He explains hurriedly, his voice cracking at the end as he fully realizes what he'd done. The nurse looks back down at her clipboard and nods to herself.

"James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes, room 107, on your first left." She informs and Steve nods gratefully.

"Thank you." He says before walking down the hall, his right hand clenching and unclenching. Millions of thoughts flew around his head. What if James was seriously injured? What if he was...

Steve doesn't finish his thought as he takes the left and comes up to a door labeled '107'. He hesitantly opens the door and peeks in to see the brunette lying there, luckily asleep.

The brunette's head was bandaged up tightly and his left arm was scraped up but other than that he seemed to be okay. Steve still felt a pang of guilt and pity, though, as he looked at him. A doctor steps past him and starts making check marks or notes on his papers, not giving Steve a second glance.

"Excuse me." Steve says and the doctor looks up under his rimmed glasses.

"Is he... is he gonna be okay?" He asks a little nervously. The doctor studies him quietly a moment before turning to look at his patient.

"And you are?" He asks.

"Steve, Steve Rogers. I don't know him but I need to know if he'll be okay." Steve says, shuffling a little.

"Well, Mr. Rogers, Mr. Barnes here has had a slight brain injury in his frontal cortex and might possibly have a concussion although he won't know for sure until he wakes up." The doctor replies and Steve swallows.

"And... when will he wake up?" He asks and the doctor sighs, he rubs his eyes.

"Mr. Barnes has fallen into a coma, Mr. Rogers. It's different for every person, when they will wake up." He explains and Steve froze when he heard the word 'coma'.

"I'm sorry." The doctor adds before walking back out. Steve drops into the seat beside the bedside table and swallows, looking over the brunette.

After a couple minutes, he leaves.

Every time he came to visit he left something on the bedside table, be it a letter or a small gift, and his apologies were everywhere. One day, the brunette woke.

They got to chatting and Steve just kept apologizing, over and over. Bucky shook his head each time. Over time, the pair grew closer. They became an amazing team, had a great relationship, and were happy. Bucky kept those gifts, those apology notes, so when they grew old they reminisced and looked back, and in a strange way, Bucky was glad he'd been hit by that dang car.
