Bucky wanders into the local library, several books tucked under his arm. He looks around to try and find a quiet table but finds all the tables packed with couples, holding hands, kissing and being mushy.
Bucky looks away and spots a beanbag chair in the kids section. Shrugging, he wanders over and lowers himself down into the beanbag and practically sinks to the floor. Sighing, he puts his collection of books on his lap, picks one up and begins to read it quietly.
After a while he felt eyes on him, he looks up and cautiously looks around. His gaze lands on a man who hadn't moved, whose fingers were dancing over pages in a book. He looks at the man and meets his gaze, daring him to look away. The blonde doesn't, however. He had sunglasses on, a brown leather jacket and jeans. Bucky frowns a little and decides to ignore him, turning back to his book.
After twenty minutes this guy was really bugging him. Bucky closes his book, gets up and walks over to him.
"Excuse me, can you stop staring at me?" He asks, sounding a little miffed. The blonde lifts his head at the noise, trying to locate it. He finds where the voice came from.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know I was staring at you." He says apologetically, rubbing the back of his neck. Bucky stares at him incredulously.
"How could you not know? They're your eyes!" He protests, putting his hands in his pockets.
"I'm blind." He replies matter of factly and Bucky's jaw drops, he feels as if his heart stops beating for a moment.
"I-I'm so, so sorry." He stutters, blushing intensely. The blonde smiles a little and shakes his head.
"That's okay, don't worry about it. People have said worse." He muses, shifting in his seat. Bucky swallows and nods, shuffling.
"Right..." Bucky murmurs, still deep red. His eyes glance over the book he was reading, the book was a book called Throne of Glass, but completely in Braille. Bucky shuffles a little.
"Sorry, uhm, don't you have a guide dog if you're blind?" He asks cautiously. The blonde tilts his head a little.
"Could you pick one spot to be in and stop shifting, please?" He counters, it was distracting him because he wasn't too sure where the brunette was. Bucky takes a seat and the blonde relaxes.
"Thanks. Anyway, I did have a guide dog for a while until he passed." He replies, Bucky groans and puts his head in his palms.
"F***. I'm sorry, I am just the master of offending." He groans, the blonde smiles a little.
"Again, no problem. I'm Steve." He introduces, offering a hand. Not to Bucky, of course, he was a little off. Bucky smiles softly, reaches over and shakes his hand. Bucky's breath hitches slightly at his gentle touch; Bucky hadn't been loved, or touched since being a child. He missed it.
"I'm Bucky." He replies, before letting his hand go. Steve nods.
"So, uh, how did you go blind?" Bucky asks quietly, worried he might be being too forward. Steve shifts a little in his seat and looks down then raises his head slightly.
"I was born blind." He replies, Bucky's faces changes into one of sympathy.
"So... you don't know what you look like?" He says quietly, Steve swallows and shakes his head.
"Nope." He says light-heartedly, trying to poke fun at it but in reality he really wanted to know. Bucky finds himself placing a hand on Steve's knee and the blonde doesn't move away. They talk for a while longer and connect, they decide to go for a walk together.
