Stephanie frowns up at the enormous building, windows darkened and barred, not a soul in sight. Even though it was a toy store, it gave her chills.
"C'mon, you're not thinking of givin' up on me now, are you?" Becky teases with a grin, nudging her with her shoulder.
"This place is creepy," Stephanie insists, folding her arms across her chest. Becky rolls her grey-blue eyes at her best friend.
"I'll protect you, dear," she purrs with a wink and Stephanie smirks and blushes slightly. "C'mon. I promise it'll be fine. We're just gonna have a look around." Stephanie looks at Becky, then back at the building, and she sighs to herself.
"Okay, fine. If either of us dies in there I'm blaming you," she threatens as she starts heading up the stairs. Becky beams and races up.
"Thank you," she beams at Steph, who smiles and rolls her eyes.
"No problem," she responds. Becky starts to work on getting the door unlocked, working quickly to pick the lock while Steph stayed on guard.
"Take your time," Steph says as Becky takes over fifteen minutes to unlock the door. The brunette turns and shoots her a look.
"I'm trying, Punk," she grumbles. Steph ruffles her hair and Becky finally hears the lock click.
"Took you long enough, Jerk," Steph retorts. Becky shrugs a shoulder then steps through the door.
Two enormous tables stacked with Lego displays and toys greeted them as they stepped inside. Shelves ran around the walls, bears and dolls peering down at them as they cautiously walked around. Becky walks over to a train station, long out of use, and brushes some of the dust off. Stephanie picks up a small, blue wardrobe on a silver chain that had been lying abandoned on the floor. What was off about this trinket was the fact that it was ticking.
"Beck, c'mere," Steph says, the brunette walks over and peers at the wardrobe.
"It's ticking? That's weird," she muses, lifting it from Steph's hands to get a better look.
"Yeah. Anyway, is this the only floor?" She questions, tucking her blonde hair behind her ear.
"Nope, there's a basement and a second floor," Becky responds as she roots through her bag. She pulls out two flashlights then clicks them on, handing one to Stephanie.
"By the way, we're not splitting up," Steph states and Becky looks at her. "Haven't you ever seen Scooby-Doo? They split up all the time and always get attacked."
"Steph. That's an animated tv show."
"I know that. But it's right," she says stubbornly, putting her hands on her hips. Becky sighs.
"Fine, we won't split up," she promises and Steph nods, relaxing a little.
They scope around the first floor but don't really find anything interesting. Just dusted toys, cobwebs, little trinkets.
"Steph, look out!" Becky shouts suddenly when her best friend's back is turned. She chucks a soft doll at her and Steph turns and gives a small shriek when she sees the doll flying towards her.
Becky tries not to laugh at Steph's sulking face once she explains it had been her all along.
"You're such a jerk," Steph whines and hits her shoulder. Becky merely grins and puts an arm around her shoulder, rests her head on her shoulder.
"Naw, you love me."
"Yeah, but still," she pouts and Becky pats her shoulder then straightens up.
