Your POV:

I woke up the next morning and looked around my hotel. I was in Winnipeg. When we played Nigeria in Vancouver I wouldn't travel there.

Are you up?

Yeah

Come get breakfast with me and my parents.

Why?

Cause my mom likes you

Your mom or you?

Just come with us

I laughed and got dressed anyway.

"So how long have you been playing?" Her mom asked.

"Since I was like 3 maybe." I said. "My dad played hockey and wanted me to play too. I liked scoring goals, but skating was an issue for me. So we switched to soccer." I smiled.

"It worked out." She smiled. "You and your dad close?"

"We were." I said. "Not so much anymore." I drank my coffee.

"May I ask why?"

"Mom." Kelley said.

"No it's fine." I said. "He cheated on my mom, and then begged her to take him back. Long story short, she did and he cheated again. Lost all trust in him, they got divorced me and my siblings went with my mom and that was the end of it." I said. "He still comes around though. Bonds with us, birthdays holidays. He came to my games whenever he was around Santa Clara."

"Sorry to hear it." Her mom said.

"It's life." I said. "We got through it." I shrugged.

I looked at Kelley and she smiled.

"Ok you two are adorable together." Erin said.

"Bro." Kelley put her face in her hands.

"What?" She said. "You are. Damn date already."

"Erin."

I laughed.

"You are the worst." Kelley mumbled into her hands. "We aren't."

"Yeah."

"Me and her. We aren't a thing."

"Hmm." Erin continued to tease her.

"Erin. Leave your sister alone." Karen said.

"Thanks mom." Kelley ate her breakfast.

"But you guys do look cute together."

Kelley groaned and Erin laughed.

"I hate you."

We paid and walked back to the hotel. "We'll see you guys later." Karen said. She hugged us both bye and dragged Erin away.

"I'm sorry about them." Kelley said.

"It's fine. I forgot how families were supposed to act. Breakfast with my family is awkward silences and usually ends in a fight." I laughed.

"We do look cute together." She said. "In my opinion."

"Focus on the World Cup, O'Hara." I said. "Next time I put that USA jersey on it better have a FIFA bag on it."

"Ok ok." She said. "And you mean focus on warming the bench right?"

"You'll get your time." We kept walking.

"When you leaving?"

"The 25th." I said. "Early in the morning."

"I wish the league took a break." She shook her head. "Then you wouldn't have to leave."

"I'll be back though." I said. We got to my hotel and I waited for the elevator.

"The game is Friday. I'll have practice Thursday. I also have practice later today but I think I'm free tomorrow. How about that second date?"

"Sounds like plan." The doors opened and I got inside.

"I'll text you." She said.

"I know you will."

Kelley's POV:

The doors shut and I stepped back.

Second date with the girl of my dreams? Check.

Now let's go win a World Cup.
