Opportunity (Simon Blackquill x reader)
Your Pov:
I sat in the apartment that I shared with my boyfriend, Simon. He was currently at the courthouse, overseeing another trial. We had been together since before the UR-1 incident, but he had been getting very busy lately.
...
A few hours later, Simon entered the apartment and set his bag on the counter before turning to me. "I've got news, love." I looked at him. "Oh? What is it?" He gently gripped my hands as he spoke.
"The chief prosecutor has assigned me to another case. I will be traveling to Khura'in and staying there for a few months."
I tilted my head. "When do I need to pack?" He sighed. "Unfortunately, I'll be going alone. I'm sorry."
And that was the straw that broke the camel's back.
I pulled away from him, crossing my arms over my chest. "So you're just leaving again, Simon? After everything..." He paused. "...that's why I have to jump on this opportunity right now." I huffed and shook my head. "What about me? What about us?" His expression softened. "Why are you being like this?"
I slapped his hand away. "Because you left me for 7 years, Simon! And I waited for the day that you were going to come back and now you're just telling me you're taking off again?!" His eyes narrowed slightly. "Ok, I thought you'd be a bit more supportive." I snapped at him. "I have been so supportive! More than you!" He growled. "This isn't really making me want to stay (Y/n)!"
I shouted at him. "Then go!" He stood. "I will." He whistled for Taka, but Taka refused to leave my shoulder. I looked at Simon, tears welling up in my eyes.
"And I can't promise I'm just going to be waiting for you when you get back this time...!"
He flinched back slightly. "(Y/n)..." I stood and headed into our room. I got my suitcase out from under the bed and started packing some of my things. I could feel Simon staring at me from the doorway, but I ignored him. Once I was finished, I zipped the suitcase shut and walked towards the doorway.
I bumped Simon's arm with my left shoulder as Taka perched on my right. "Goodbye, Prosecutor Blackquill."
Simon didn't say a word to me as I left. He just watched me go. I tried to put Taka on his perch, but he refused and stayed on my shoulder. I sighed and headed out to my car, starting it and driving away.
...
I sat in the Wright and Co. Law offices with Athena next to me. She rubbed my shoulder. "I'm sure he'll come to his senses." I slumped. "Is it me, Athena? I waited for him for seven years, I never loved anyone else but him. Is he tired of me?" Athena gripped my shoulders, shaking me slightly. "It's not you! He's just being stupid! Let him be alone again! He'll come crawling back!"
Taka screeched from the couch cushion next to us. Athena giggled. "See? Even Taka agrees!" I looked at her. "I guess you're right."
That night, Athena invited me to stay with her. We were sitting on the couch watching a crappy rom-com when we heard a knock from the front door. Athena looked at me. "Who's out this late?" I shrugged. "Go look." Taka moved to perch on my shoulder as Athena left the room.
A few seconds later, I heard the front door open and Athena's voice as she spoke to someone.
"Why are you here, Simon?"
I tensed as Simon's voice reached my ears. "Is (Y/n) here? I must speak with her." Athena huffed. "She's here, but she doesn't want to talk to a pompous, arrogant, disre-" I walked into the front room, stopping behind Athena and resting a hand on her shoulder. "That's enough, Athena. I'll deal with him." Athena hesitated before going back into the living room.
I turned to Simon, stepping onto the front porch and shutting the door behind me. "What do you want, Simon? I thought you were leaving for Khura'in soon?" He sighed. "I was, but I realized something." I rose a brow. "And that is?" He gently grabbed one of my hands and lifted it to his face, softly kissing my knuckles. "I love you. You have stayed by my side despite everything I have done and for that, I could not be more grateful."
He continued. "I have decided to stay with you. So, please, come home..." I sighed. "Simon, don't expect me to forgive you so easily next time." A squeal came from behind the closed door. I shook my head. "Athena the eavesdropper."
As I packed my things to go back home, Athena lectured Simon. "If this ever happens again, I'll make sure to make you pay! (Y/n) is my best friend and I'm not about to let you break her heart!" Simon chuckled. "I understand, Cykes-dono. It won't happen again." With that, the two of you, along with Taka, headed home.
In the car, Simon held your hand, intertwining your fingers together. He smiled. "I love you." You smiled back.
"I love you too, Simon."
