I sat on the sofa, slowly rocking the small bundle in my arms. I smiled. Then, my phone buzzed. I looked over to see a text from Matt. He was my boyfriend. We'd been together for 5 months but he didn't know that I had a baby. Every guy I dated before ran for the hills when they found out I had a baby. I read the text.

'Got off work early. Movie night at your place?'

Hesitantly, I texted him back.

'Sure.'

After that, I sat in silence. I looked down at my baby. They were only 7 months old and had no other family except for me. The father left after I told him and I haven't heard from him since. After about 20 minutes, I heard a knock on the door. I stood and placed the baby in the playpen. I went to the door and opened it, seeing Matt standing on the doorstep, "Come in. It's a bit cold today." He stepped inside, nodding, "I know. Filming outside was such a pain."

Just then, the baby's cries came from the other room. Matt looked at me after hanging up his jacket, "Are you watching something with babies in it?" I bit my lip, "Um, hang on a second." I darted off into the living room, lifting my little one from their playpen. I started rocking them and humming softly. From the hall, I heard a cough. I turned around to see Matt. He looked at me, "Oh, I didn't know you were babysitting."

I sat on the sofa and looked away, "I'm not babysitting..." There was silence for a few minutes. Suddenly, the couch dipped as Matt sat next to me, "Are they yours?" I nodded, "Yes. I understand if you want to leave." He spoke again, "Can I hold them?" I looked up at him, eyes wide in shock. I slowly handed them to him. They looked up at him with their big, doe eyes. Matt smiled, making different funny faces. The baby giggled.

I smiled. He looked at me, "I know we've only been together for 5 months, but, I don't want you to do this alone." I tilted my head, "Do what alone?" He sighed, "Raise them. Now I know why you work all those jobs at the studio." I gulped, "You want to help me raise them? They're not even yours, biologically I mean." He shook his head, "Biological father or not, they still deserve to have one." I nodded, "If you're sure. Thank you."

He smiled, "Don't thank me. I just want you and the little one to be ok." He looked towards his phone, "Take of picture of this. I want to have stuff to look back on." I opened his phone to the camera and took the picture. I handed him his phone back. Suddenly my phone buzzed. I picked it up and turned it on. There was a text from my ex boyfriend and baby's father.

It read 'Can we talk? I want to get back together for the baby's sake. And I miss you.' I frowned, dropping my phone onto the couch. Matt looked at me as he put (baby name) into their playpen, "What's up?" I sighed, "My ex. He texted me just now." He sat next to me, "Can I see?" I handed him my phone. He read the message. He frowned. He pressed the call button and put the phone to his ear. It rang for a few seconds before my ex answered. Matt spoke, "Hey, dude, I'd like it if you didn't text my girl."

He continued, "She is happy without you and she doesn't need you. I have more than enough resources to take care of her and her baby. What do you have to offer? A deadbeat, no child support giving dad?" Some words I couldn't make out were said. Matt scoffed, "Uh-huh. Sure. Anyways, if you even think of contacting her again, I'll break your damn jaw." After that, he hung up and handed the phone back to me, "There. Now, if he tries to mess with you again, don't be afraid to let me know, ok?" I nodded.

I leaned my head onto his shoulder. I felt happy that Matt stayed and didn't leave like the others. I finally had someone who loved me and wanted to be a part of my narrative.
