Your Pov:
A few days after I told Miles, I decided I needed to go to the doctor. I was nervous. There was one test I wanted done more than anything else: a DNA test. Because, maybe, just maybe, this baby wasn't the result of a drunken mistake. I sat in the waiting room, listening to the ticking of the clock. Miles had no idea I was here and I planned to keep it that way. Soon enough, I went back to see the doctor. She asked me a few questions and took a few notes. I spoke up.
"Would it be possible to do a paternity test today?" The doctor nodded, "We'll just need a blood sample from you and a swab of dna from a potential father." I unzipped my purse and pulled out a clear zipped bag with a swab stick in it. Miles always swabs his mouth in the morning after brushing his teeth. So, I took one of the ones he used in order to do this. The doctor took the bag from me, "This should work fine. A nurse will be in shortly to take a sample."
The doctor left the room and a nurse came in right after. She took my blood sample and left the room. I tried to calm down, but it just made me more nervous. After 30 minutes, the doctor came back in with some papers in her hands. She sat across from me and spoke, "According to the paternity test, which is right 99.999% of the time, the father of this baby has very light colored hair such as silver or very light platinum, darker colored blue or grey eyes, a pale skin tone, and tall posture. An age analysis says the father is around 24 years of age."
I smiled as she handed me the papers. It was pretty much a physical copy of what she said. A weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I left the doctor's office and headed home, only having 30 minutes before Miles got home from work. I grabbed a cardboard box and a sharpie. I wrote on the inside of the lid 'Like Darth Vader, you are my father.' Then, I put an arrow pointing to the papers below and wrote under it 'Just ask my mom!' I left the box on the counter and went to our room. I laid down on the bed and fell asleep instantly.
I awoke to the sound of the front door opening and closing along with Miles' voice, "(Y/n), are you here?" His footsteps paused near the kitchen, where the box would be. I heard the sound of papers shuffling before footsteps thudded towards the bedroom. The door opened and Miles stepped inside. He looked at me, holding the papers in one hand, "Is it true? I'm...?" I nodded, "Yes. It's yours. No one else's." I stood up from bed.
Miles approached and gently hugged me which kind of surprised me. He murmured in my ear, "You don't know how happy this makes me, darling. I love you." I smiled.
"I love you too."
A few years later... Your Pov:
I stood in the kitchen, cooking dinner when my son, Gregory came into the kitchen. He spoke, "Mama, what's a soulmate?" I smiled, "Where'd you hear about that?" He smiled back, "Papa." I patted his head, "Well, a soulmate...it's a...well, it's like a best friend but more." Gregory nodded and I continued, "It's the one person in the world who knows you better than anyone else. It's someone who makes you a better person."
I looked at the family photo on the wall, "Actually, they don't make you a better person. You do that yourself." I looked at the cardboard box with the black sharpie writing, "Because they inspire you. A soulmate is someone who you carry with you forever." I smiled slightly, "It's the one person who knew you and accepted you, believed in you before anyone else did or when no one else would." I looked at the ring on my finger, "And no matter what happens, you will always love them. Nothing can ever change that." He smiled and ran away.
Miles stepped into the kitchen and kissed my forehead, "You're right, darling. I love you and I love our son that you have blessed us with." I could hear Gregory giggling in the living room as he played with his toys. I softly smiled, "I love you too and I cannot thank you enough for staying with me despite everything I've done." He simply shook his head.
"I've forgiven your mistakes already. And it's because I love you."
