The Past (Miles Edgeworth x Reader)
Your Pov:
I woke up to the thrashing and whimpers of Miles next to me. I sat up and started gently shaking him, "Miles. Miles..." He awoke with a jolt, sweat on his forehead. I looked at him, "Nightmare?" He looked at me, "Yes. I'm sorry for waking you. I'm fine." I sighed, "Do you want to talk about it?" He hesitated, "It was about him..." I spoke, "Your father?"
He shook his head. I continued, "My father?" He nodded. My father was the great Manfred Von Karma. He ruled the courtroom with an iron fist. He took in Miles when I was 8 and he was 9. It was right after his father's death. Miles was never the same. My father completely ruined him then.
Miles cleared his throat, "It was that same ridiculous beratement. It wouldn't stop..." I shook my head, "It's alright. He isn't around anymore..."
Father would constantly berate and belittle Miles at every turn. He never had a reason. He just did it. I remember the first time I caught my father belittling Miles.
**Flashback**
I was 15 then. Miles had just turned 16 the day before. I was walking pasty father's office when I heard him talking to Miles. I stopped to listen. I heard my father's voice, "You must listen to my judgement. Always." Then I heard Miles, "Your judgement, sir?" Father sighed, "The world is cruel. The world is wicked. It's I alone whom you can trust in this whole city. I am your only ally Edgeworth."
I flinched back from the door. Father continued, "I who keep you, teach you, feed you, dress you. I who look upon you without fear. How can I educate you, boy, unless you always perfect yourself here. And away in court?" I cracked the door open slightly. Father stood behind his desk. Miles stood to the side of the desk.
Father tsk'd, "You are deformed." He spoke as if he was talking to a dog. Miles bowed his head, "I am deformed." Father walked around the desk, using his cane to lift Miles' chin, "And you are ugly." Miles repeated it again, "And I am ugly." I put a hand over my mouth. Miles wasn't any of those things my father said he was.
Father smirked, dropping his cane back to the floor, "And these are crimes for which the world shows little pity. You do not comprehend." Miles bowed his head again, "You are my one defender..." After that, I hurried to my room, unable to listen any further. My father was so cruel.
**Flashback over**
I rested my head on Miles' shoulder, "You are not any of the things my father said to you. You are not ugly or anything of the sort. I remember when my father called you ugly and deformed. But you're neither of those things. You have a scar, yes, but that does not make you deformed or ugly."
Miles had a scar on his face. It was very, very faint. It started from his jaw to the bottom of his eye. When he was stuck in the elevator with his father, he hit the metal railing before passing out. He cut his face in the process. My father treated the scar like it was a deformation of Miles' face, but I barely even noticed it.
He looked at me, "But..." I shook my head, "No. No buts. I love you and your scar. It's not even noticable unless you look really close. Ok?" I felt his shoulders relax, "Alright. And...I love you too (Y/n)." He laid back down. I smiled.
"Good night Miles..."
