Your Pov:
I stood in the kitchen, preparing dinner for my so-called master. He was a peculiar man, different from my last meals. His soul was full of pain and anger, yet, he remained indifferent. That's what made it so worth it anyways.
I found him shortly after his prosecuting career hit an all time low. At first, he refused me, claiming he didn't need my power. Then, after some taunting and persuasion, he accepted. In return for his soul, I would give him protection and find the true killer during the court proceedings. This meant killing a few people here and there, but I didn't mind. I was a demon after all.
I put the finished food on plates before placing it on a cart. I pushed the cart out of the kitchen and down the hallway, stopping in front of the study door. I knocked, "Master, I have your dinner." His voice responded from within, "Come in, (Y/n)." I opened the door and stepped inside.
I brought the cart in, shutting the door behind me. I pushed the cart closer to the desk and uncovered the main plate, "Today we have tomato and mozzarella caprese along with with garlic bread and for dessert we have New York style cheesecake with strawberry glaze drizzled on top."
He nodded, "Very well. Go attend to your other duties. I'll call for you later." I nodded and bowed, hand over my heart, "Yes, master." I turned and left the room. I went back to the kitchen and checked my list. The next thing to do was to go to the farmer's market and get organic tea leaves along with carrots and broccoli. I grabbed my purse and headed out.
Once at the farmer's market, I picked up the carrots and broccoli. I headed over to the tea leaves, seeing only 1 container left. I went to grab it, but bumped hands with someone else. I looked up to see a familiar pair of red eyes and raven black hair. I smiled, "It's been a while, hasn't it? Still with the haughty brat?" He nodded, "It has been quite a while and yes, unfortunately. What about you?"
I sighed, "I'm contracted to one of the so-called 'best prosecutors in the country'. His soul is delectable though, so I'm not complaining." He smirked, "I see. The mentally broken are always the best. Well, I must be going, but once your contract is complete, I'd like to speak with you more. You know where to find me." With that, he left. I grabbed the tea leaves and payed for everything before heading back.
Once I returned I started up the kettle for some tea. I arranged the teapot and a tea cup with a saucer on a tray. After the tea was ready, I poured it into the teapot. I pushed the cart down the hallway and knocked on the door, "Your tea is ready, master." His voice came from within the room.
"Alright. Bring it in." I opened the door and stepped inside, bringing the cart with me. I placed the teacup and saucer on the desk. I began pouring the tea into the cup, "Today, we have Earl Grey tea made with organic tea leaves." He nodded and dismissed me.
I left the room and started on cleaning the rest of the house. After 30 minutes, I finished up. Then, there was a knock on the door. I headed downstairs and opened it. Familiar golden eyes greeted me. I rolled my eyes, "Here on business, spider?" He spoke, "I am only here to deliver a letter, dove." I took it from him, "I'll take it to my master." I closed the door. I hated that spider. He was almost my mate at one point.
I went up to the study and knocked on the door, "Master, a letter has arrived for you." He spoke, "Bring it in." I stepped inside and gave him the letter. I stood silently as he read it. He sighed, "It seems my time is up." He put the letter down, "The prosecutor's office has forced my retirement. So your services are no longer needed." I nodded, "Before I take your soul, would you like to indulge in human desire one more time?" Hesitantly, he nodded. With that, I let him indulge.
After that, he passed out. I sighed. I couldn't do it. I couldn't take his soul. He wasn't a cruel man. He was just a shell of a man he could've been. I canceled the contract and left the room. I opened the window and took a deep breath. I shifted to my dove form. To the human eye, I was a rare black dove. I perched on the window sill before flying away.
In the distance, a lone crow circled in the overcast sky.
