Childhood Sweethearts (Pearls x Male! Reader)

Requested by Tevinn_Arachnid

A/N: This story progresses the characters from children (Pre-AA1) to teens/young adults.

No One's Pov:

Kurain village was overjoyed at the birth of a new child. It had been almost seven years since one had been born, with the last being Misty Fey's daughter, Maya. One of the mediums from the second most respected family in the village, Mayra (L/n), had given birth to a baby boy.

And then, just a year later, Morgan Fey gave birth to her little girl, Pearl Fey.

That's when an idea occurred to Morgan.
...

Morgan sat in the tea room of Fey Manor with Mayra. Morgan held Pearls in her arms as she spoke quietly to the woman across from her.

"What do you think? A marriage between the Feys and the (L/n)s would bring about a new generation of even stronger mediums. Your husband, he was from Khura'in, was he not? Your son has impressive lineage."

Mayra hummed. "It does sound like a promising offer. As for my husband, I'm sure you've heard of what has become of him since he left me. My son...my poor son..." Morgan sighed. "An insurgent...And he had been seeing another woman. But this marriage would keep your son from being like his father. My daughter has a beautiful soul."

Mayra nodded. "Yes, that's true. Let's arrange for the marriage to happen at let's say...18?" Morgan smiled. "Perfect. A most wise choice."

And with that, the deal was sealed. In 18 years time, two lives would conjoin into one.

Your Pov:

(8 years later)

(Pearls - 8, Reader - 9)

I hurried through the village, carrying a bucket of water for the house. Mother had went down to the city, leaving me to take care of my younger siblings. My mother remarried right after I was born and had my siblings, but the man she married also left her. So I had to take on a lot of duties because of it.

As I passed the Fey Manor, I heard a voice call out to me. "(Y/n)! Wait up!" I stopped walking and turned to see Pearls approaching me. We had been friends since birth and arranged by our parents to be married when we're older.  On Pearl's magatama necklace, she wore two silver beads, one on each side of the magatama.

I wore a smaller necklace of my own with the same two beads. It was a tradition in the village for those who are engaged to wear them.

I smiled at her. "Hey Pearls. What's up?" She looked at the water bucket in my hands. "Do you need help? That looks heavy..." I shook my head. "I'm fine. My mother went to the city, so I have to watch my siblings." Pearls tilted her head. "I'm done with training for the day. I can help out!" I lifted the bucket up. "Then we'd better hurry. Lena and Kyun want chicken soup for lunch."

The two of us starting walking to the house. It wasn't very far, maybe give minutes at best. Once we arrived, we headed inside and I emptied half of the water into the cooking pot and put the other half in our water urn. Lena and Kyun were napping in their room, so it was quiet. Pearls tapped my shoulder. "I'll cook to the soup while you tend the animals. You have to feed your mother's goats, don't you?" I jumped. "I almost forgot! I'll be right back to help with the soup!"

I quickly headed into the yard where my mother's goats and one cow lived. I grabbed the heavy feed bag, almost falling over from the weight, and took it to the feeder. Once the feeder was filled, I checked on the goats.

I smiled as I saw a new baby in the pen. I filled the goats' feeder and pet the mama goat's head. "Congratulations Dishna." As I turned to head back inside, I smelt the smell of the soup being cooked. It smelt wonderful.

When I entered the kitchen, Pearls was reaching for some bowls on the shelf, but she was too short. I laughed. "Here, I've got it." I reached up and grabbed the bowls before handing them to her. "It smells good." She smiled. "I put all my effort into it. I hope it tastes good!" Lena and Kyun were rubbing their eyes as they sat at the table. I turned to them. "We're having chicken soup for lunch. Pearl made it so don't forget to thank her."

The two perked right up, smiling.

"Thank you, Ms. Pearl!"

We all sat down to eat, making small talk as we did so. The soup was delicious and refreshingly warm. Once we were finished, I cleaned up the dishes as Pearls entertained my siblings. As I finished the last dish, I heard snores coming from behind me. I turned around to see all three of them asleep on the futon in the main room next to the kitchen. I grabbed a blanket and covered the three of them with it before writing a note and leaving the house.

I still had a lot to do.

(Timeskip - During second case of JFA)

I sat with Pearls in the Winding Way. We had been playing with her ball when it accidentally hit Mystic Ami's urn. Pearls was teary eyed as we walked over to the urn. I kneeled down and scooped up the pieces before turning to her. "It's gonna be alright, Pearls. We can fix it in no time!" She looked at me. "R-Really?" I nodded. "Yeah!"

I had wanted to talk with Mr. Wright since I was really interested in what he did and how he helped people, but Pearls was more important at the moment, so I pushed that thought aside. I could talk to him later.

And so, we spent most of the day together, repairing the urn. It wasn't perfect, but we got it back into one piece.

That day became one of my fondest memories...
...

(Timeskip - Dual Destinies Aquarium)

I walked with Pearls through the aquarium. Our homeschooling group had decided to take a trip to the aquarium in the city. One of the penguins had taken a liking to Pearls.

As I saw Pearls smile at the different fish and mammals as the light gently reflected off her skin, something in me changed. We weren't kids anymore, but things between us had changed. We were both nearing 18 and my mother was excited for the upcoming wedding.

As I stared, Pearl turned to me. (Y/n)? What are you looking at?" I directed my gaze to the aquarium tank.

"Nothing, Pearls. These fish are beautiful, don't you think?"
...

All of Kurain Village was seated in the audience. My mother sat in the front with my siblings next to her, a proud smile on her face. Then, everyone fell silent as the music began.

I froze as I caught sight of Pearl. She wore her mother's wedding kimono as Maya held the train behind her. Everyone had started murmuring to each other, but all of my focus was on Pearl.

She looked breathtaking...

When she reached me, the ceremony began. The officiant looked at us.

"We are gathered on this sacred ground to witness the binding of this man and this woman."

After a few more minutes, the ceremony began to come to a close.

"Do you, (Y/n) (L/n), take this women to be your wife?"

I smiled. "I do."

The officiant turned to Pearls and asked her the same. She turned to me, a beautiful smile on her face.

"I do."

The officiant closed their book. "Then I now declare you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride."

From the sidelines, Maya opened a box, sending a cascade of butterflies into the air.

As they disappeared into the sunset, I pulled Pearls into a kiss.

Everyone cheered and celebrated as we pulled away from each other, our foreheads touching.

"I love you."

"I love you too."
