Garden of Shadows (Apollo x Siren! Reader)
A/N: The reader is not a mermaid siren. She has a completely human appearance but is extremely beautiful. She guides her prey into the forest with her voice before draining them dry.
Your Pov:
I hid in the darkness of the forest, waiting for my next victim to pass by. My throat was dry and tight. Footsteps broke the night's silence. I watched as a young man walked up the path. He looked tired and distant. I smiled.
He was perfect.
I stepped out of the trees, making sure to enter his line of sight. Soon enough, he locked eyes with me. He stopped walking and just stared with dark brown eyes. I beckoned him closer as I opened my mouth.
"Are you, are you, coming to the tree? They strung up a man they say who murdered three. Strange things did happen here. No stranger would it be, if we met at midnight in the hanging tree..."
His eyes glazed over as he walked towards me. I backed into the tree line, waiting for him to follow after me. After a few seconds, he came into the forest. I walked away slowly, staying within his line of sight.
"Are you, are you, coming to the tree? Where the dead man called out for his love to flee? Strange things did happen here. No stranger would it be, if we met at midnight in the hanging tree."
I could hear him walking behind me. The wind whistled through the trees as they cast their shadows upon the ground. As I sang, I began to reminisce about my life before this. My mother was a siren, but my father was a human. They had loved each other infinitely. That was, until my mother's secret came out. He came despise my mother, calling her a monster and kicking us out into the cold. I was only 10 at the time.
"Are you, are you, coming to the tree? Wear a necklace of hope, side by side with me. Strange things did happen here. No stranger would it be, if we met at midnight in the hanging tree..."
My mother raised me alone, teaching me the ways of the sirens after I showed signs of being what my mother was. She helped me capture my first victim, but she was proud. Unfortunately, one day, hunters came to our forest. I was 16 at the time. I helped my mother kill as many as we could, but it wasn't enough.
"Are you, are you coming to the tree? Where I told you to run so we'd both be free? Strange things did happen here. No stranger would it be, if we met at midnight in the hanging tree..."
With her dying breath, my mother told me she loved me and begged me to run as fast as I could. I obeyed. Since then, I've lived in this forest alone, draining unfortunate men and women who cross my path.
I snapped out of my thoughts, noticing how close we were to our destination. The boy was still following me, eyes even more glazed over than before. This is what I've resorted to. Feeding off of innocent men and women.
"Are you, are you, coming to the tree? Where they strung up a man they say who murdered three? Strange things did happen here. No stranger would it be, if we met at midnight in the hanging tree..."
We arrived at the large oak tree. Handprints in various shades of red decorated the tree and nooses hung from it's branches. I stood, my back facing him, waiting for the right moment to strike.
"Are you, are you coming to the tree? Where the dead man called out for his love to flee. Strange things did happen here. No stranger would it be, if we met at midnight, in the hanging tree..."
I finished my song just as he stopped right behind me. Then, in a flash, I snapped his neck. He crumpled to the ground. I dragged his body closer to the tree. I bit into his neck, taking my fill before pulling away. I grabbed a wooden bowl a few feet away, letting the blood drain into it. Once I was satisfied with the amount, I stood.
I walked closer the the tree until I was almost face to face with the bark. I dipped my hand into the blood before placing my hand flat on the tree. I pulled my hand away and started dragging the corpse to the river. Once there, I pushed the body in. Then, I poured the blood into the water, watching it slowly take on a faint red hue. I walked back to the tree, climbing the branches and settling into my soft hammock. I looked above me, watching the nooses on the branches swaying in the breeze.
I closed my eyes, slowly falling asleep as the wind carried my song far away.
